I'm so glad that this passed ! Anyone leaving a pet outside once the temperature goes below 32 degrees will get fined & a jail sentence. Maybe this will make some pet owners think twice about leaving their pets outside in the cold . 4951

This is a great start but 32 is too low. It should be more like 45, at least. 4951

Had not heard about this but it's good news. Although I think the temperature should be anything under about 40 degrees. Forty degrees is COLD. 4951

I think it depends, I know Bree loves lounging on the cement deck by the pool in 30 degrees. I can't get her inside.But she doesn't stay outside when it's above 85.Must be a Great Pyr. thing.So far even 10 weeks old Echo seems to love the cold. 4951

I think for sure it depends on the breed. Great pyr, Huskey, St Benard, etc all love the cold because they were built for it. My vizsla on the other hand? No way, skinny thing has no undercoat and will nearly even sit or lay on a tile floor! I think it's a good start though for sure.

I remember in NY my friend had a husky. Dog would loose his dang mind when it snowed, it was hysterical. He would bury himself in the snow piles and refuse to come out. You literally had to drag him back inside like he was going to the vet. Then he would sit in the house and sulk, giving you the side eye until you let him back out. He was a nut! 4951

I'm against trying to pass laws or regulate common sense for everything.  We don't need government controlling every part of our lives. 4951

Soon we will have food stamps for the less fortunate dogs, then dog obamacare, then we can have dog support through the courts, then dog lawyers.Until then maybe everyone that owns a dog can learn how to scoop the poop! 4951

That's a great law. Dogs don't need to be out in the freezing cold. The only thing worse than having a dog out in freezing weather, is having a chained dog with no dog house out in the freezing cold. 4951

I have mixed feelings about this. It really depends on the breed. For example a Husky would be comfortable outside at 30 degrees, but could suffer when the temperature is 80 degrees. 4951

@WJo:

Is this just for your state or is it national law? 4951

Before people brought dogs inside, they lived outside just fine.  My parents never allowed dogs or cats in the house but we would put out a blanket in a wind sheltered area.  They did fine. 4951

@Nurse3:  With all the issues this country needs to deal with, I sincerely hope Congress did not pass this.
