Helping out my stepson and daughter in law today with a little project. They are the ones with the nice big house in Atascocita for their family of 5 kids. The kids bedrooms are all upstairs, the 2 boys share one bathroom and the 3 girls share the other. The younger girls aren't careful enough when getting in and out of a shower and water ends up on the floor, they just have a shower curtain now. It's gotten to the point that there is now a wet soft spot in the middle of the kitchen ceiling downstairs. I told my DiL sometime back that it was the water splashing out when they get in and out but she kept thinking there must be a leak somewhere and had a plumber come out. He basically told her what I had and even demonstrated by letting some water run off the edge of the tub on to the floor so she could watch it disappear into the cracks. I suggested the shower doors as curtains never seem to properly close and also that the kids quit getting in and out of the shower at the end where the taps are since more water seems to come out at that tend. We'll see if this helps fix the problem. 4951

So the amount of water splashing out is from the shower curtain being pulled back? Or from the girls getting out soaking wet and getting the floor wet? 4951

That was my thought!

Can the girls dry off in the shower before they get out? It would allow time for all the water to drip off the curtin and they wouldn't create such a mess on the floor. 4951

Yes, a shower curtain can be washed but shower doors require manual labor.  4951

I think they are young girls. The shower doors should work good. I know from experience that I've told my dds to dry off in tub and sometimes they sometimes not. I remember cleaning their bubbles off the floor lol. So they got a shower door! It worked. I miss those times when they were young. 4951

@Chrisinkingwood:
If the curtain is left hanging in the tub when they get out it would not drip on the floor. Is it getting pulled out to the outside of tub when getting out so it drips on floor? 4951

And an absorbant rug for them to stand on when they get out..

If ya gotta do the shower door, tell her to wax it or at minimum rainX it..that helps keep it clean. 4951

The only reason I hate doors on a tub is because my kids are very young. So bending over the rails to bathe them would suck. Luckily I don't have this problem. But just my 2 cents. 4951

Thanks for all the replies. The sisters are 13, 9 and 7 and the shower gets used every day at least by the older GD who now takes her appearance at school pretty seriously. The other 2 probably shower every other day or so, no one takes an actual bath. They all get in and out at the end where the taps and shower head are so I think there are opportunities for water to spray out. They do put a towel down to step on and try to absorb water but it seems like the water is still pooling up where the linoleum tile meets the tub and door frame.  I'm going to also recaulk all that. Yes, shower curtains can be washed or easily replaced unlike doors but they have a cleaning service that does pretty good housework so I think they will keep the doors clean. I also suggested they get in at the far end of the tub where the water doesn't splash as much but well see if that works.  Shower curtains work if you are careful about sealing them as tight against the tile and wall but even still water can leak out, I see this all the time in hotels we stay in. The doors just seemed like a better way to keep the bulk of water getting out when kids just aren't paying attention. 4951

I hate to clean a tub with shower doors. I would try caulking, bath mat, etc. before installing shower doors. 4951

@BooBear: I figured out how to clean them the easy way. A microfiber towel. I bought one made for drying a car windshield. SOO much better than a squeegee. After wiping the glass doors down I set the towel on this star thing I got from Hobby Lobby and right above it is the vent for the bathroom. It dries fast, within a few hours.

Hope you got it done before 7:30. Don't want to annoy the neighbors.I don't like the idea of glass near any slippery surface. 4951
