Sears is alright. Believe the outlets are franchised out. I use to love Sears until they got away from their niche and started peddling crap like everyone else. Sears used to build homes, really good homes of which many are still standing. Best to look for who has the best deal these days since they all sell the same brands. Dishwashers, they are all the same. Same motors, same parts for all of them, I know because I looked underneath them a few years ago. They all are the same except for cosmetics and design.  4951

Know the feeling. Replaced a hot water heater, one I replaced maybe 5 years old. Motherboard died. Also replaced a water main. Sucks but I found a way to earn some extra coin on the side. I do some male dancing for private show. Ok, I''m lying  but I really did find a way. Crap is not coming out of my main paycheck. 4951

the Sears outlet here in Ky. sucks....they sell all the rejects' from  all the local Sear stores , scratch & dent & returns  . Just go to your local Sears store & do not chance buying from the outlet. & be sure to get a warranty with what ever you choose. 4951

I've owned three different Sears homes over the years. Tore two of them down and remodeled the last one.
They were all the same, two story farm houses, all with the same floor plan.
I still have the original plans for one of them, which is a good conversation piece.
The home is set on 24" logs rather than a foundation...and then the skirting of the building is enclosed with motar and rock. Looks like its setting on the rock but behind the rock is the log base.
Walls are full 2X4's from the ground to the roof.

Sears was great when my dad was their buyer.  Then he retired. 4951

sears never built homes. they sold home kits which were complete packages. you either hired people to build the house or built it yourself. the 2x4s from the foundation to the roof is called balloon framing. it is outmoded in comparison to the standard framing these days. the balloon framing creates a chimney effect in the case of fire and draws the fire upward. by modern codes, there have to be fireblocking inserted between the studs to retard the firespread. if you ever renovate, it is a great idea to install the fireblocking and be sure there are firewalls in the attic between the garage and the living quarters. a firewall is a framed and sheetrocked partition with the drywall joints taped with two coats of mud. many of the apartment fire news stories are for older buildings with no firewalls in the attics separating the units so the fire travels  thru the attic to the other units 4951
