Deep breaths and make a plan.  Either make a plan at work to get the job done methodically or make a plan to get out of that environment.  If this is short term, figure out how to do the job well without stressing out.  You may need to step away from your desk every so often and find a place that you can stretch and deep breath.  If it is a long term stress issue, I would get my resume together and find a way out. 4951

I pack my lunch and eat away from my normal spot. My biggest source of stress is a coworker who has a mission to drive me insane. I've made it a full week without making eye contact with said person. 4951

Unless you are a trauma surgeon most of what we do is not going to kill anyone, it's just stuff. Let it go.

@Stealth83: Ha - My SIL is a nurse and in her early years she accidentally put the wrong medicine or wrong dosage or something in a patients IV and nearly killed them. So whenever I was stressed about my job or messed something up at work I always thought - hey, at least nobody is going to die!

Too true. Being a nurse is stressful even on the best days. Your worst days, you just want to hide under a rock with your fingers in your ears saying "lalalalala no one can see me". Lol 4951

For me, I manage the stress with exercise and by trying to relax on the weekends, which I can normally do.  Also, I used to have a significant leadership position at my company and after several grueling years told them I would like to do something different.  That has reduced the stress as well. 4951

Take a mental health day or two. If you can, don't take it home. If this is a constant issue, discuss with supervisor and/or HR. 4951

You shouldn't ever go to HR at a company, it makes you look bad.... I've discussed the work load with my manager but no changes. 4951

Perspective, the most powerful key to life, and handling it. It's not just about looking on the bright side, iit's  about realizing that while you are stressed, you ARE still blessed with many good things. Have you ever been unemployed or strapped for money? That's one of the worst pressures there is. Just having a job relieves ALL that.Re-Frame your thoughts to focus on what's good in your life. 4951

Most stressed I had ever been was combat missions in Afghanistan. Everyday before we rolled out, always felt the same; nervous uneasy no matter how many missions, never got easier. Now, I still get stressed, but nothing even close to that level. End of the day though, all you can do is the best you can and try to stay calm and absolutely exercise during the week. Most runners will tell you, they are addicted to it which they should be, it releases all those happy chemicals. Many studies on it. "Runners High" is a real thing.   Continuous exercise can produce short-term euphoria, an affective state associated with feelings of profound contentment, elation, and well-being, which is colloquially known as a "runner's high" in distance running or a "rower's high" in crew.[51][52] Current medical reviews indicate that several endogenous euphoriants are responsible for producing exercise-related euphoria, specifically phenethylamine (a stimulant), β-endorphin (an opioid), and anandamide (a cannabinoid).[53][54][55][56][57] 4951

I second the motion for exercise, even just a walk helps.  I also would remind myself that it's just a job, I'm not a doctor with someones life in my hands, or on a combat mission like beastmode had to contend with.  I guess it helped to just put things in perspective, then do the best I can with what I have. 4951

One thing I have learned, some people don't get stressed that much. I wish that was me, I always admired people like that and try to emulate some of the things they do. There is a great book, "The Tao of Pooh" (Winnie the Pooh). Highly recommend it. Winnie the Pooh is one cool dude. Winnie-the-Pooh himself, for example, personifies the principles of wei wu wei, the Taoist concept of "effortless doing," and pu,
the concept of being open to but unburdened by experience. In contrast,
characters like Owl and Rabbit over-complicate problems, often over-thinking to the point of confusion, and Eeyore pessimistically complains and frets about existence, unable to just be.[2]     4951

@bubbleyes72...I'm retired now (age ) but when I was working I did my job & did it well , so when the job became too much for me I took a vacation for 7 days  when I came back to work the 1st day went okay , but by the 2nd day it was the same old problems all over again . So I  sent out my resumes & waited .....I went on interviews during my lunch hour & by the following week I had a new position at a new company . I stayed there for 25 years till I retired . I took less pay to start but within 2 years I was making more than I had at my old position. So everything worked out in the long run . The thing is ....if a "job" makes you feel sad or useless it's time to move on . Life is too short to  be the one to allow sadness to rule your life . Sometimes a step backwards will end up being 10 steps forward , especially if you have peace of mind & soul. Just remember "YOU are responsible for your own happiness". Good Luck in what ever you decide to do . 4951

I disagree. I have had jobs with wonderful HR departments. I believe it's all in the approach. Would I go to HR complaining that a certain manager is causing the stress or anxiety? No. You obviously have to know the culture of your HR department. If you have spoken to your manager and no changes have been made, you may need to explore your options. I have dealt with everything you have described and, if changes are not being made, it will only get worse. 4951
