Floor wardens are all in a tizzy, Fire Marshall is stomping around with his posse looking all official, large and in charge. It's just a drill, people. 4951

One of the high rises where I worked had alarm tests.  All the fire alarms would go off.  They'd tell us "just ignore the alarm".My response:  "Way to condition people to ignore an alarm.  In a fire, seconds count.  People waiting around for you to tell them if the alarm is real or another test could be the difference between life and death." 4951

@fcabanski:

I had that happen once when I went to help out at another office. Fire alarms going off (not a test or drill) and I could see others leaving the building but the ladies in my office were too lazy to walk down the stairs and told me it happens all the time, don't worry. Luckily it was almost time for me to leave so I told them I'm not taking that chance and left. I found out the next day when the fire dept showed up the ladies were escorted out of the building and got reprimanded. I'm glad I left. 4951

I used to be a fire warden. Hated wearing that stupid arm band and telling people to stay quiet. 4951

I was at Kelsey Seybold downtown today waiting to get an x-ray... and they halted all tests, etc because they were doing a fire drill. When it went off we all just went in the hallway (by stairs). Was kind of weird seeing all the Dr.s and staff together in the hall way! After it was over the girl doing my X-ray was in Fast mode! She said those drills always put them far behind. 4951

I lived in worked in new York city for a while back in the 70's.

My office was on the 20th floor. We had to stop having fire drills.

Two reasons:

1. Women were being molested on vacated floors.
2. Thieves were raiding offices while people were out on the street.

Keep in mind, this was in the 70's. I can't imagine what would happen now. 4951

Are these fire drills the same as the ones I remember from grade school? 1. stay in line2. no talking3. hands at your sides.4. march outside and wait for your teacher to say it is ok to go back in 4951
