Last month's water bill arrived.  It shows I used 35,000 gallons, which is more than 3x my highest ever month's water use.The meter isn't running when no water is in use.  There is no leak I can find.  The MUD is sending someone to read the meter. 4951

@Ray:

I thought it was based on your lot size...you had to have an acre before you could put in a well. 4951

Mine doubled, saying I used twice as much. I did not, they are full of it, no leaks, I didn't even water the yard. We are all being hoodwinked.....believe it. 4951

@Ducatisti: I know a couple houses in Woodstream that have wells and they are just average 8-10K sq ft lots. They were put in when the house was built around 16 years ago.

@Maisey1: Those are grandfathered in.

Our bill was much higher but it might be because I was watering a lot more when it was hot and one night forgot and left the sprinkler on all night. Haven't told my wife about that yet! 4951

So August of 2014, we received a call from the COH that we had "unusually high" water usage. To the tune of 60K gallons. OMG I was not happy that it took 50K gallons before they called to tell me.We think it was caused by a small leak in a pool pipe (even though there was no swamping in the yard). We did dig up the pipe and have it repaired. We were able to submit a form to the COH showing that it was a leak and that we had it repaired. They approved and we were only responsible for half (about $550). It still hurt the wallet, though!CH did tell us that we could get a sewer meter installed and run water for the pool, the sprinklers, etc. off of that and that the charge for that water was half of city water (or less, maybe?). Of course it had to be done by someone certified. We never looked further into it. 4951

My house bill is usually $30-40, but since my son moved home, it went up $10.  I watered the yard a lot and that bill was $200. 4951

I just checked the meter.  It reads 1277.  The read for the last bill, the July bill (meter read in August) was 1289.  The meter isn't even up to what they claim they read.I missed the meter read today, but the tech put a note on my door telling me to not water more than 15 minutes a day, or it uses a lot of water.I called to demand to know the results of the tech's read/inspection. 4951
