Maybe some people say it as an insult, like you really need prayer.

Other people, I think, say it to keep themselves in check. The Bible commands us to turn the other cheek and pray for our enemies. When we engage in conflict, we are not being very Christ like. But conflict is human nature, and none of us are immune to it. 4951

@mm4731When I personally say that "I'll pray for you," it means that I am lifting you up to God, covering you in His Grace, in His Peace, in His Presence, and wish only Blessings to come your way....Perhaps if it's said while in a heated discussion or argument, depending on the topic, maybe it's meant for God to give understanding, clarity, validity, to "open someone's eyes, heart and mind," or simply to receive Peace....@WskyTngoFxtrtI'm not Religious myself, my friend, but I am most blessed to know, to call upon, to conversate with, to pray to, and to follow Jesus Christ...  I very much pray for you, @mm4731 , your families, and the majority of my beautiful friends here on KDC....Prayer is a most powerful tool, my friends, and in my but humble, honest opinion, I would definitely NOT consider it an insult, but rather a blessing....  4951

Y'all have a blessed day now! I get that alot at work and the person saying it actually means it nicely.

Then again, customers frequently tell me that too when they're upset.

Kinda sucks how it goes both ways. 4951

I usually haven't said that in a debate but have to people in a crisis or low mood. And I mean it and do.

Also when someone online ask for prayers and people say..sent, or hit like or say, done, I always wonder if they really do. I do, if at home, I do it on the spot before I hit like. If in public when I read it I make a mental note to remember when I get home.

I also dont care for the way it sounds in a debate. 4951

That is like wishing someone good vibes or good luck how ever you say it I feel it means the same thing . When people use "I'll pray for you " its in the tone like its meant to hurt you in a condescending kind of way . Dont they know sticks and stones bub ! Take a hike ... 4951

Philippians 4:6-7                       Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:8                       I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 1 Thessalonians 5:16                       Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; James 5:13                      Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.Psalm 55:22                       Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain youEmoticonhilippians 1:3-4            I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy....  4951

It's said as nothing other than an insult. Basically saying they are right and you are wrong and if i throw 'I'll pray for you' out there, its like saying you are so wrong that God will back me up, normally said in a condensing righteous tone.

Example:
Me: dinosaurs did exist, fossils prove it.
Bible thumper: no they don't, the bible says nothing about dinosaurs. It's a man made evil lie that the devil is telling you. I'll pray for you. 4951

@Francita:  I have heard the phrase when I am, or someone in my family is, ill or has to have surgery.  Even though I'm not religious, I appreciate the thought.
