It's insane to not be allowed to cheer for your child at their graduation.  I just can't even comprehend the stupidity of this. 4951

@HotterThanYou:

They were asked to reserve cheering until all names were called to speed up the process and let everyone get cheered for at the same time. Lots of schools do this 4951

High school, college, no one ever listens. I have yet to attend a graduation where multiple groups haven't hollered out, or blown those stupid air horns, even after being asked not too. 4951

@djchavez0921: I can understand the cheering but the air horn is rude because the parents can't hear their childs name being called.... Those that use those should be escorted out and fined! 4951

I understand that they don't want five minutes of applause for each person, but a quick, "WooHooo"  "Way to Go!!!" etc is perfectly normal. 4951

I can agree with the school in asking spectators not to cheer.I cannot agree with criminal charges for disturbance of the peace.  That's crazy.  How does the statute in Mississippi define "disturbance of the peace?"  It's usually related to an actual decibel level and sometimes a location/time of day limitation...  I have no idea what this actual statute says, but there's just no way.  4951

This just shows this arrogance of school administrators. Something I've known all my life. Darn out of control employees. 4951

I would go to jail because you better believe when my daughter's name is called, whether it is high school or college graduation, I am cheering.  High School Graduation is sort of a rite-of-passage for young adults.  We just attended my nephew's graduation from KPark and each family cheered for their loved one.  It don't believe it put anyone out.  Life is short.  Celebrate the accomplishments! 4951

The issue is exacerbated by holding high school graduations in facilities like Hofheinz (sp?) Pavillion where several schools are scheduled only a certain amount of time each on the same day.  I don't see why they don't hold the ceremony on the high school campus.  We were going to have ours at the football stadium, but rain caused us to use the auditorium as our backup.  I realize seating capacity is a factor but they could then use as much time as they wanted. 4951

More proof of the dumbing down of society. This would be a non issue in the not too distant past. 4951

I do think it is extreme, but they were asked not to do it. If there were no consequences what keeps people from doing it? As mentioned several schools do this at a place where they have rented an amount of time. If each parent thought I will only cheer a little bit and break the rules, that adds up. Every time someone cheers they announcer has to pause to announce the next graduate.

That's what's wrong with this world. Everyone thinks they have the right to do whatever they want and it's no big deal. Have some common courtesy folks. If it wasn't a big deal and didn't matter then the school wouldn't have a policy about it. But the school had their reason and now this person must suffer the consequence! Too damn bad, follow the rules. It's not all about you! 4951

@aggiebutterfly:  But the graduation is all about the graduates.  So much work goes into that, they deserve to be recognized individually.  The graduations I've been to there is always a pause between names as the graduate walks across the stage and gets their diploma.Sorry, I don't care, my kids is getting a woo hoo from me when he graduates in a couple years.  Arrest me if you want, but he worked hard, and I want him to know I'm proud of him!
