I need to buy graduation gifts for 3 high school graduates this year. All are boys, two are going to the military, and one is going to UT.

I thought about giving gift gas cards, but I dislike giving gift cards by themselves, and would prefer to attach it to a small gift. Do any of you have suggestions? 4951

VISA gift cards...give them in a personal size pizza box and say it's emergency pizza money or something funny like that. Not all graduation gifts have to be pens and briefcases.

Or make them an "all nighters studying survival kit" with coffee, no-doz, snacks, gift cards, etc. 4951

@Mustang40:

Wait, I said a small gift!
Lol, they're getting a gas card, I figure every kid can use an extra tank of gas for running around.

Thought about adding a popcorn popper for the boy going to college dorm.

the more I think about this, the more I like this idea! I bet if I went to Pizza Hut they would sell me a gift card and a little pizza box that I could add things to. this is great for the college bound boy!

now what can I do for the two boys going into the military? Just double up on the gas cards? I'd rather have something more creative like this. 4951

@donnatella:  Girl, you got that right!  When I graduated high school, I must have gotten ten Cross pen and pencil sets.  I appreciated the thought but I never liked Cross pens and pencils.  I used a Paper Mate pen and a Pentel pencil all through college.  I re-gifted the Cross pen sets over the years.Before I graduated college, I had interviewed and accepted a job with an oil company.  They had a policy that engineers wore ties.  Since I only had two ties, I requested and got a bunch of ties as graduation gifts.  On my first day at work, I noticed that no other engineers were wearing ties.  I asked my new boss and he said they had rescinded that policy the week before!

I do gas cards, pizza cards, Starbucks cards and stuff like that if I don't know them very well, or they just don't have strong interests.  We have a friend who's son is graduating next weekend and I have to come up with something as well.  4951

Cold hard cash is the best for the two going to the military, they will need it. Any gifts you buy them will be left behind because when they report to boot camp they go with nothing but the clothes on their back. I sent my son off to boot camp with two days of clothes, within 24 hours of him reporting they send it all back via UPS!!!! 4951

@ms21883: Give them something that could possibly change their lives........buy them all "The Total Money Makeover" book by Dave Ramsey and if you have a close, personal relationship with any of them, have them make a personal commitment to you, on their word or honor, to read it immediately, before they depart on their journeys. 4951
