I went through the drive thru earlier this week and was a bit disappointed. I know they just barely opened. And I'll give them another chance later on.

First, they failed to give me half my order then argued with me that it was all in one very small bag. Finally, they saw there was a second larger bag still on the counter. The girl was apologetic and overall friendly. She was just confused.

Then I got home with my two soft tacos, one chicken fajita and one brisket. They were so skimpy. At the Humble location, they fill their tacos with so much meat that I order extra tortillas and split it into 2 tacos. These barely had adequate meat for one taco. Not really worth $2.49. The kids enjoyed their flautas, but it bugs me that they are misnamed. A flauta has a flour tortilla. A taquito has corn. Right? Their flautas are made with corn tortillas.

On a positive note, the queso was hotter and fresher than at the other location, and the tortillas were awesome as usual. The salsas were also good.

Has anyone else been there? Btw, it looked like Pollo Tropical was open but I didn't see any signs. 4951

@Mahm:
Every flauta I've ever eaten has been in a corn tortilla . And I grew up in brownsville on the mexico border as far south as you can go in texas. Maybe its a tex mex thing .

@CBP210: Sometimes you have a busy day scheduled, and 3 kids in the car, and the baby has a diaper blowout and everyone is whining that they are hungry and you don't have a spare minute to prepare food, and fake Mexican fast food seems to be the most appealing option. K?

@staylifted: Okay, I'm a little confused, but I'll just accept whatever a restaurant wants to call it then! Emoticon

They're the same thing. Taquito is just what certain places call them for the gringos who can't pronounce the word flauta. Emoticon 4951

I tried it on Saturday.  I love TC but this was bad!  The service was borderline rude in the drive through.  I specifically requested extra salsa....I got none.  I had to get out and go get it myself.  I almost choked to death on the fajita meat as it was so fatty it got stuck in my throat.  I am sad about this but I will give them another shot.  I have been looking forward to having one over here because I often have the same experiences at the Humble location.  I am crossing my fingers that it gets better! 4951

I think most everyone would PREFER homemade authentic Mexican food vs. Tex-Mex drive thru. However, we can't always get what is preferred. I'm not a fan of Taco Cabana, they have always been a disappointment either in service, cleanliness or quality. 4951

Taco cabana is ok if you go in, I like having access to the condiments bar. Beef fajitas only for me. not a fan of their tex-mex stuff poor plates. I also like their barbacoa breakfast tacos. 4951

@donnatella: Like many other places, it seems like it was so much better in the 90's. Have my tastes changed or did they go downhill? Even back then, there was a considerable difference between the locations on the south side (Hobby Airport was the best!) and the Humble or any other north side location. For some reason, the food seemed fresher and the salsas seemed spicier where the population was a little browner.

Here's a throwback:  Does anyone else remember when Taco Cabana was Two Pesos?  I loved their breakfast food, condiment bar, and $0.99 margaritas.  It sure was nice during the low budget college days. 4951

@buffaloglenn: If memory serves, I think Two Pesos was a ripoff of the exact same menu and decor, and was sued by TC because of it.
