So. At what age did you make your kiddo start wearing deodorant?

DD is 8.5 & plays outside evvvvery single day with the neighbor kids. Also in soccer & tumbling. She of course showers nightly for a good 20- 30 min. She played outside this morning for an hour or 2 then we ran some errands, but while we were out & about, I'm gonna he honest, girl was stanky. At what age did you do the deodorant thing? 4951

I starting smelling, um... not so fresh around 5th grade. I would say the start of 5th grade would be a good starting point. All I remember is I came in from recess and something was different, like girls and teachers telling me Hey! Deal with this situation you little stinky bastard....or something like that. 4951

@Heathur:
When the boys started using deodorant, I started with regular deoderant, not with anti-perspirant. This keeps your young one's exposure to chemicals at a minimum. You may even want to start out with one from the healthy food section at heb or at Natural Kitchen and see if that works for her.

My DD is 10 and when I picked her up from daycare yesterday they had been outside playing.  She smelled like an onion in the car.  It was nasty.She forgot to put her deodorant on yesterday and man could you tell.  She has been wearing it for at about a year now.  When she remembers or I remember to remind her in the morning to put it on. 4951

LOL @ smelled like an onion!!!! Hahahaha! You're funny.
I used to have the boys put a mini one in their backpacks in case they forgot in the morning. Idk if they actually ever used it but it's a good idea.

Since my daughter has been doing karate and basketball she started wearing deodorant at the age of six. When kids are so active it is that time. I have given rides to my daughters classmates and yes they had the body odor smell and these were 3rd graders. 4951

I agree. @Heathur, Kiss my face brand (HEB) is aluminum free and has a cucumber-melon scent that would be not too perfumey for her age. I think my DD was around 10 or 11 when I started encouraging her to wear deodorant. 4951

@topcat: I keep one in my desk cosmetic bag along with other travel sized emergency items. Sometimes I'm in a rush and forget. Although I apply it after my evening bath, I don't like the sticky feeling from not applying fresh in the morning, as well. 4951

@heathur I'm not sure what age I started wearing deodorant, but it was probably around 11 or so. I also suggest starting her on a non-aluminum type to see if it helps. I recommend the La Vanilla brand, sold at Sephora. I have the lavender vanilla scent & use it on staying home days. The smell is soooo good & lasts really well. Can't hurt to try! 4951
