Every time I/we tell people we're moving there, we hear about all the bugs! Big bugs!! Can someone clue me in? What do I really have to look forward to? I assume an exterminator is in order? Thanks! 4951

@Thumper100: Bugs, yes. Your home is never safe. As far as landscaping, choose appropriately.
Exterminator = get a shotgun. IMOWelcome to Kingwood! 4951

Yep there are lots of bugs- but we have tree frogs, toads, anoles and snakes to eat the bugs- so no worries!! What's not to love- temperate weather and rarely any snow 4951

The spiders can be big as well as the cockroaches but you get used to it all!  I have the house sprayed 4 times a year and have no problems. 4951

@Jpgurl: @Thumper100 If your from the north, please listen to this advisory... ANY hint of snow of ice, and the entire city shuts down...This means a day off for you. We drive 80mph in rain just like we do with ice.

Few bugs but no different than pretty much anywhere that doesn't have a deep freeze winter. Not worth worrying about. 4951

When I first moved here from California, I thought I was going to have to go to a therapist to discuss my fear of spiders, thick, gross ones, that crawled right in the house, when you hit them, 1000's of babies spring free. Yuk! 4951

Yup. No worries. We do get some ants in the yard and flower beds in the Spring but I take care of them myself. Used the same exterminator for 12 years. 4951

I would be more worried about the crap those guys spray around your house than the bugs. 4951

I've been here 11yrs & never have problems with bugs. When we first moved here we used an exterminator every quarter & after awhile we stopped. I live next to a reserve and we rarely have problems which you think would increase the problem. Some tree roaches & geckos but that's about it. I've never seen a snake in the yard.  One year we had a nutra (I think that's what they are called) I can't remember if we were having a drought or we got alot of rain, but everyone said that why it traveled so far from the water. But I also don't freak out about bugs. 4951

When we moved down here my wife and kids had a issue with tree roaches. We also found out that my son is allergic to fire ants. If you have kids, they will enjoy the lizard. 4951

@Brat:
Well that IS true- no one down here can drive in the rain OR what little freezing stuff we get- thankfully we don't get frozen stuff that often. But dang I do get annoyed with drivers in the rain- they either creep along at 10 mph or drive like a bat out of hades at 80!!!
But still wouldn't trade it for love nor money
