I'm curious, what would happen if I cancel Obamacare. I don't care for it and still can't afford it. 4951

why not actually CALL someone who can give you the answers to your questions? oh and do remember that the penalty is just that: a penalty. it does not provide insurance for you when you pay the penalty 4951

The first year is about 300 in a fine, it goes up a little each year but doesnt come close to what insurance cost you. Many miner ER's and doctors charge a reasonable price to be seen when sick so if it comes between feeding yourself/family and trying to make government happy...feed yourself,In a life or death situation ER's in Texas must still treat you even if you dont have insurance. Of course thats not the ideal way to go about your medical care but if you cant afford insurance you cant afford it....pretty simple 4951

@Burnsway: Actually they must only stabilize you.   They do not have a legal requirement to fully treat you.

@Stealth83: Right and many people cannot afford the medications or the outpatient follow up.  It it is a costly gamble to not have insurance in some cases.  I have spent more than ever in healthcare this year and have had zero ER visits and zero hospital stays.  The prices of basic doctor visits and prescriptions are sky high  I am thankful I can afford the insurance my employer offers.

@ederick: The good news is the penalty ($95 per adult, $47.50 per child, OR 1% of taxable income, whichever is greater, may as well say 1% as most make more than $28,500), although calculated on a annual basis, is 1/12 of the annual penalty for every month you go with out ins, so you'd only pay for months you went w/out it.

If you get a refund they will withhold some of it BUT if you do your taxes right and owe a little bit at the end of the year they won't charge you more as in a penalty. It is a weird thing - they can only apply the penalty to refunds, not to taxes owed.

@Stealth83: LOL, that's simply not true, and if it was, it would sure have everybody changing their withholding from their employer to make sure they owed instead of were due a refund, but as many crazy rules/mandates this crazy law has, that's not one of them.

@Stealth83: Stabilizing you is still treating you and saving your life..of course if they find you have cancer or need heart surgery ETC they will refer you to your general doc to go from there but many are under the impression if they are sick with a bad cold or pneumonia or have a car accident or break a bone they cant be treated leading them to get sicker and even die. I just wanted to make sure he understood that without insurance he can still get care in an emergency. It would be nice if everyone could afford insurance but not every one can drop 600-1000 a month. Not everyones job helps regardless the new laws...Employers also chose the fines as it was cheaper on them.Obama care is a joke...only one benefiting from it is our government and their deep pockets.

Speaking of healthcare, who is footing the bill for all the illegals they're holding at these sites? You do know there are some that are sick and I am pretty sure they have a doctor or someone who is tending to their needs....... who's covering that bill????Just a Thought.... 4951

@bubbleyes72: Actually this is how our health care crisis started decade or more ago. They could not afford care so they were treated free at ER's...so in-return ER's and other medical charged more for those who could pay so then the next group of people could no longer afford care for themselves because they were charged for others also straining the system more causing medical to go up even more causing even the NEXT group of people...mainly middle class no longer affording care. Each time this happened insurance went up because they also had to pay for the insured AND the non insured when an aspirin cost 12 bucks or a child ambulance ride 5 miles away was charged at 4 grand or a bed pan was rang up at 21 bucks....etc. This caused many middle class people to have to drop insurance making the group of uninsured even larger. There is a reason the ER is such a long wait even when empty....those are billing hours...They love people coming in around 9-10 pm because keep them past midnight and billing hours turn into billing DAYS. If those nurses are really sweet and offer you a water or coke you bet your bottom dollar you, or someone paid 6 bucks for that....LOLMy old saying is I CAN AFFORD MY OWN CARE IF IM ONLY PAYING FOR MY OWN CARE.....LOL
