I am concidering moving out of Kingwood school district.........  Only because I fell in love with this house.. My kids say they don't care. I just need some feedback. I don't want to make a bad decicion especially for my son that will be starting his first year of middle school. He is doing pretty well in school with A's and B's. My daughter will be a Sophmore and she struggles at K-Park. Thanks for your help! 4951

My kids were going to Bens Branch Elementary across the street. I pulled them out after Spring Break to home school them. They were sick a lot, and I don't know if it was something environmental inside the school or if it was from the other children coming to school sick.  I have talked to a couple other parents who were having the same issue at that school. That said, some other parents commented on this forum about the district as a whole, and said they have not had that issue, and that they are happy with the district. One parent had a child at the 6th grade campus. My middle child also attended Valley Ranch a few years ago, and we did  not have that problem there, so I am convinced it is only an issue at Bens Branch.I was generally happy with with district otherwise. And I visited Porter HS with my DD14 last summer, and I was impressed with their "degree plans." 4951

It's zoned for Porter kids so they'll grow up thinking that a high school education, no teeth, being a meth-head and wearing next to nothing is perfectly fine with a career choice. 4951

I would put the school in front of the house if it were me...  The kids come first.  I moved from Aldine to get my kids into the Kingwood Schools best deciison EVER !!!  They have both graduated so now it's my turn to go and do what I want!!!  That being said I know nothing about White Oak Middle School.  Good luck !! 4951

I researched schools from the time I got my job offer. I knew that I wanted Kingwood all along but couldn't find the right house in time so we temporarlily moved to Humble. I figured we could stay there for a year.. NO. I moved to Kingwood from Fall Creek after just three months of moving from Oklahoma because the schools just weren't the right fit. And quite franky I didn't like the area - at all. We came from a VERY small town. I feel like DD was overwhelmed by the size and focused on making friends rather than schoolwork. She did the same thing when we moved to Kingwood but liked the school a little better.

I feel that my son will do well wherever he goes to school. Fortunately, school is like a game to him and it seems to be a breeze for him.

I guess my question really boils down to the teachers. Porter High is so new. Is it really fair to base the decision on ratings alone? Does anyone know teachers from that school? What about White Oak? Thank you in advance for your (not rude) input.
I am usually fine to cut up. But this is a serious matter and I am pressed for time. Emoticon

Note: I sure wish I could find THE HOUSE in Kingwood.. That drive to the back of Kingwood.. Can we get an alternate route or what... Emoticon 4951

I cant speak much because we dont have kids, but my wife is a principal in New Caney ISD.  We were talking about this other night how Porter (or at least the stereo type of Porter) is changing.  The influx of change in the area and how it is growing is bringing in a wide variety of cultures.  It will continue to grow with the Grand Parkway and new businesses in the area.  I would completely disagree with @Jax, the kids are pretty diverse coming from all over...much more diverse than Kingwood.  If that is something you are looking for, then go for it...if not, stay in Kingwood.  We love our house in Auburn Trails and the community.  Hope this helps. 4951
