Has anybody ever used one of these?  I had a dog over and it made a run for it.  It took half the day to get the dang dog back.   I just ordered a cheap one from Ebay. Hopefully it's not total junk being that I really don't need it. My dog doesn't run off.  I can open the front door and let her run down the street and all I have to do is clap my hands and whistle and she will come running back.  After today though, I don't think $50 is a bad investment IF it works.   Word of advise, when building a fence design the gate so that it opens to the inside so it can't be pushed open by a dog from the back yard.Loading Image... 4951

@DiverDude So you got it for your dog in case he tries to get out? Sounds like a good idea if he spends a lot of time outside.  I don't have any experience with these types of fences. 4951

They have to be trained. I Spent $2000 having one installed over an acre of land then never trained the dog..it shocked him and he jumped over the invisible fence and kept going. It was fun having my son hold it and walk toward line and seeing him get shocked....we laughed. 4951

We used one until it broke.  The dog ran through it a few times but would usually stop.  We had a lava lamp that would set it off too so the dog was then afraid to go in that room in the house.   4951

I did get this one really cheap.  It was only $40 and another $11 for an additional collar. I picked that one because it has replaceable batteries instead of the built-in rechargeable ones. ...and it was CHEAP.   I actually got it for OTHER dogs.  I let my dog out all the time. She comes when I call her and I live on a very dog friendly street.  There are about 6-8 dogs that run our street. We don't use leashes unless going for a walk off of our street, nor does just about everybody else on this street.  All of the dogs are known by everybody and each other. 4951

@BooBear:    I was actually thinking I'd have to train them to it because if they didn't realize that it was a boundary issue then they'd just think it was the collar.  Then I'd have a hard time keeping the collar on them.

If the dog is stubborn, it can be a problem. It stopped two of dogs dead in their tracks. One would get something in her mind, ignore it while running/chasing then NOT come back through it when the attention was lost.So it most likely depends on the dog. It takes some awhile to learn where it is. 4951

gee this had me all confused...an invisible dog fence. i can see why you would need one cause if your invisible dog got out, how would you ever find him or her? i mean they could be standing right next to you and you'd NEVER KNOW!... 4951

We had one- you do have to show the dog the boundary line. Ours had an audible warning and if the dog continued to approach the line it would get shocked. We could adjust the audible warning to sound at different distances from the shock line.

Now while it worked great we had this old farm dog named Sadie. She was quite intelligent. We ( even the company Invisible Fence) could not figure out why we were changing batteries so often on Sadie's Collar. The company gave us a new collar, we tried switching collars with the other dog. Made no difference whatever collar Sadie wore- the battery lasted 2 weeks. That dog loved to roam.
So I started watching her. When she'd get a new battery she would walk the entire fence 3 feet away from the line- the exact distance the warning was set for. After a week- she made a break for it!! Dang dog figured out that when she could no longer hear the warning it was safe to run!! Invisible Fencd said they had never heard of a dog doing that. I'm sure other dogs have found the weak point by now!!😃 4951

We had one. HAD. The dogs dug it up several times and we got tired of fixing it all the time. It never stopped them. We were trying to use it to keep them from fence fighting. Never did work properly.  4951
