ladybee : Hubby took our equipment out. He says all he had to do was unplug the DVR from the TV and the wall outlet and the cable modem had to be unplugged from the outlet. I think you could do this on your own. Be sure to return the equipment to the Optimum store nearest to you. We took ours up to the Optimum store at Valley Ranch. Make sure you get a receipt and save it in a place you can find it. We got a bill for not returning equipment and had to call them 2 times to get the charges removed. Also, when you return the equipment they should give your a phone number to call to cancel your service. Returning the equipment is not enough to cancel the service and the people at the store can not cancel it for you. The call took about an hour of my life. They try really hard to get you to stay and to get you to take some other service. In fact, the very next day a new modem showed up on my front porch. I was a little upset they sent a modem after me canceling their service. I had to call in again to to make sure it was canceled. They wanted me to take the modem up to Valley Ranch and I told them no, I was not going to take it up to Valley Ranch because I did not ask for it. They sent me a return label in an email and I did have to drop it off at the UPS store here in Kingwood. Good luck getting out of their clutches! Emoticon

Thank you for the good advice, BUT I have tried to do this myself. I am elderly and handicapped. I am willing to pay for the help. Would love to have a person do everything.

Great idea to get a receipt for all you turn in to them, but also take a photo of the items, At the store, before you hand them over. Take an individual photo of each item. If they try to say "It's okay", or " we will email you a receipt", just tell them you will be glad to wait, while they get you one, and find a place to sit, and wait. shouldnt take them long, once the realize you are not leaving without it.

ladybee : Oh, I did not realize that. I hope you can find someone to handle this. Maybe someone knows a handyman that can do it for you. Good luck!

If you are here in Kingwood, there is a Tech company called Buzzingo, 281-617-2899. They open at 11:00. They have been known to make house calls. You might start with them. Best of Luck to you!

On the other hand, if you are going to be getting another service, the new service can do all of that for you when they come to set up.

If you are getting direct tv or Xfinity, they will unplug all the other equipment. They will not return it for you, and yes, you need to document and get receipts from Optimum. If you are getting EZ fiber, they will do the network/cable modem only.
Your handyman can probably do it. And if you have a Senior's ministry at your church, they will be happy to help you.

ladybee :
The new company will disconnect the equipment for you. Just have a bag or box for them to put it in. Take a picture of the serial #s before you drop it off w Optimum when you return it.

Thanks to all for this conversation. I have an appointment with a tech. company I found through Thumbtack and google reviews. Price for 1 hour consultation is reasonable. I will update here afterwards.
PS No one will return the stuff to Optimum. I will pay a trusted Kingwood resident to do it for me. Perhaps someone who has already returned their own equipment.
