First Phase Will Feature Areas for Large, Small Dogs

(SEPT. 14, 2026– NEW CANEY, TX) – The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) has awarded the construction contract for the first phase of its highly anticipated 200-acre park in New Caney to HD Outdoor Construction.

Construction is scheduled to begin in November on the first phase of EMCID's long-term vision for a natural park that preserves the area's beauty while providing new recreational opportunities for residents. That first phase will include two fenced dog park areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs, totaling 32,856 square feet.

HD Outdoor Construction specializes in amenity construction, working closely with landscape architects to create distinctive outdoor spaces that meet functional needs while complementing and enhancing the surrounding natural environment. This expertise makes HD Outdoor Construction an ideal fit for this project.

"Creating quality outdoor spaces is an investment in our community's future," said Frank McCrady, President and CEO of EMCID. "This park is designed to provide a place where families, including their four-legged family members, can gather and enjoy the outdoors."
The first phase will include:

• Separate large and small dog park areas totaling 32,856 square feet
• Two interactive water features for dogs
• Two shade structures with adjacent seating areas
• Artificial turf play areas
• Parking with 33 spaces
• Restroom facilities
• A covered canopy area
• A future children's playground

In 2023, EMCID purchased 64 acres along FM 1485 near Caney Creek for the dog park. Since then, the district has acquired additional surrounding property, expanding the project to approximately 200 acres. Residents were asked to provide input on what they would like to see in the park's second phase through surveys and a public hearing. A second public hearing to gather final input is in the works.
Future phases will continue to enhance the park while maintaining the natural landscape that makes East Montgomery County unique.

I wish that an area for a dog park could be built in KW. With all of the animal lovers here it seems like a no brainer. We have horse stables at Rivergrove park but no dog park ? It doesn't make sense to me.
What are they using the property of the former FFA barns for? Surely we have some land for a couple of acres for dogs here.

teatime : They did put one in. I took my dog there and immediately left. It was pretty awful. The conditions and I knew immediately my dog would be injured. There were aggressive dogs on my one and only visit there. Hope this isn't a way to pocket some money.

e : I remember hearing about that one, before I got my doggie. It wasn't actually in Kingwood if I recall. I don't think from what I heard that it was maintained.
Since KW is part of the City of Houston and they have established proper dog parks with space for both large and small dogs it seems they should do the same for KW.
A nice one with shade, benches, water faucets , doggie obstacles. walking paths, water features and landscaping. Maybe I need to call Fred whats-his-name.

This is near my house, but we lost our baby boy dog in February; he was with us since the birth of our son in 2021, and I still cry every day.
