They definitely need to start doing driving tests at a certain age. It's hard to get people to stop driving. You can't put that on the kids to take the keys away.

Mind you I'm in the position where I have older parents and I was also in a car accident where an 87 year old hit the gas instead of the brake. It sucks to give up your keys but there are other options to get around now that we didn't have in the past.

I was at Johnnys car wash and hit reverse to exit. $4000 damage to my car. Within two weeks after thinking how my life would change, hung up the keys and canceled my car insurance. This is while 1960 in Atascocita was all torn up and played a HUGE factor. I didn't want to put my grandkids at risk - wouldn't have been able to live with myself.
I stopped before someone was hurt. I am 76 and 2 years past a stroke.

#msg5956376SummerSneeze : I am 70, and I Totally agree with you. I know a friend of my bil's who is 76, and can hardly hold a coffee cup due to shaking hands, and has lots of mobility problems. I understand this all, but he has and Uses a driver's license. The problem with this is that there are Others out there, that one can hurt, when impaired. The force it took to jump that curb and go that far into the building says that the driver hit the gas pedal pretty hard.

LittleTexas : There wasn't a curb. The vehicle most likely tried parking where the ADA ramp is located for the handicap parking spaces. I don't know for sure, however.

I was in the shopping center today and saw the unbelievable aftermath. There were many floral tributes left at the scene which just broke my heart- I cannot stop grieving for that lovely young woman with a promising future ahead of her. My heart and prayers go out to her family, loved ones and co-workers.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
it surely is; so many of us have been there, often. You can see by the photos that there is a 'normal' sized curb, and no cement parking blocks on the ground, nor any of the cement safety posts, at that center. Emoticon so sad, in every way.

GoldenGirl : I go there about once a month. I remember her. She hadn't been working there very long. It's just so beyond sad. 😭
