#msg5930350Avoid flooding: Lift Your House up 24 feet!!! Talk about "Raising the Roof!" This Florida house is going up up up some 24'.....Cost? Around $500,000...Once completed, the homeowner is hoping for no more flood damage. Wondering if/when some folks in Kingwood might consider a similar thing...? Coastal homes like around Galveston, Corpus...yes...especially The Island (Padre) near Corpus. People are reportedly "stunned" by Florida homeowner lifting house 24 feet into the air! "The project, reported by Tampa's WFLA News Channel 8, highlights the growing lengths many Floridians are going to in order to adapt to intensifying hurricanes and rising flood risks. It reflects a wider trend among Florida homeowners who are increasingly opting to lift their properties rather than abandon them, driven by rising insurance costs and repeated storm damage. House in KIngwood did that. I have no idea who lives there, I will take down the picture if they don't want it up.
It's done now, looks nice.

It would have to be an amazing property for me to consider doing that. The expenses and headaches would stop me. I've seen a couple of houses that have been raised in Forest Cove. We had a beach front home in Galveston. It had survived Carmen and several other storms/hurricanes. It was washed away during Rita.
My preference now is purchase something more disaster resistant.

I have been watching a lady who also lives in Florida raise her home. She has flooded 2 times in a year. She said they love the area and it is where they want to stay.

A lot of homes in the Meyerland subdivision across town have done this.
That's all well and good but the water surges will probably wash out the houses around him and they will hit his house and take it down.
