Hello! My name is rikster.
A little about me:I'm a ham operator with the callsign km5hm, I mostly operate 160 meters for 1 1/2 hours in early morning. I've noticed an increase of callsign lookups in the past few years, I'm wondering if the kingwood member that goes by km5hm has been bootlegging my call.

My husband is a ham radio operator - he is 83 and has been into it at 10 years old. He has a ham room in the shed in the backyard about 15 feet away from the house thank goodness. He has talked to other hams in so many countries around the world. I can attest he does not "bootleg" other calls. Hope you can find out who is the culprit.

I went to an Estate sale a while back that had a bunch of ham radio stuff. I wonder if someone bought it and is having a little fun.

Lulu45 :
your OM has been hamming over twice as long as I have. I know what you mean about the shack being out back, we made a move one time, and the XYL said, "no radio in the bedroom"
If you have a callsign, there's no reason to bootleg.
I'll be off the air for a few days to see if the count goes up, I just found it curious that someone came up with that particular moniker.
tell your OM 73!

Ham radio operators are used for some public emergencies so they do get to be helpful. Also, hubs has made friends with so many people in different countries. They trade "cards with their amps and connections, etc". Interesting hobby with a license once an operator passes FCC tests. Talking with people in other countries has been good - we have learned so much.

don't get to watch much German football over this way, sometimes they broadcast it on the weekends.
I'm kinda stuck on the premier league, I support Manchester United.

I think it's pretty sad, that there are people so lazy, with you being able to get the study/answer books that have all the questions and answers. Morse code was lowered to five words per minute in 2000, and eliminated altogether in 2007, back when Lulu 45's husband got into it, you would have to draw the schematic for a transmitter or receiver as part of the test.

that reminds me of 2 meter packet radio back before the internet came around, back in the 70's. It worked kinda like email, except with radios over the air. Wouldn't work over here... too many pine trees.

rikster : Soon ham operators might be the only method in town. It scares me thinking governments have the ability to shut down our communication…even our bank accounts……after ai is perfected.
