I don't know how far back people can remember, but Kingwood had more restaurants, a movie theatre, a live jazz restaurant, a cool wine bar with designer decor for sale and an out door patio with live music.
All kinds of yoga studios , aerial, medical , not just hot yoga or a gym atmosphere.
Preteens had their own nightclub and centers to gather.
Kingwood was safe.
No homeless living in the woods committing crimes.
Teaches in the schools were retired professionals giving back to the community.
It was very Norman Rockwell.
Kingwood has changed, more so after Harvey.

This quote irks me a little bit, because no one wants to hear a rude, unnecessary comment like this being said about their community. But, I don't know the writer of the article, or where they are from, so I don't know where their perspective comes from. I don't subscribe to the Chronicle and would not bother to spend a penny to read the article, but I guess they have the freedom to express their opinion. I'm glad for all the new businesses opening up in that area, and look forward to trying them when they come.

We've lived here for 36 years. It had a small town feel back then. And our schools were highly rated. Hurricane Harvey decimated many people's lives. It took 8 years for our business district to finally begin to recover. It's nice to see empty store fronts being leased to major tenants. It might not be Mayberry anymore, but KW is still a great place to live.

@CatalinaKitKat: every area has changed in the last 20 years; some of it not so great, that is just progress. My Mom grew up on Chenevert Street in Houston. Today, I wouldn't go there without my best friends, Smith & Wesson. Surrounding commerce, storm damage, and more have changed things, but I agree that KW is still a great place to live.

@Caffeine :
I have lived in Kingwood for 49 years. I've seen a lot of change, including enough car washes, Mexican restaurants, fast food establishments. I miss not having a good Houston daily newspaper. I happened to see the email with reference to Paris Baguette. There is a Paris Baguette that opened in Clear Lake near a condo that I own there. It is a delightful cafe/bakery--something that I feel that Kingwood can certainly use. I don't get excited about grocery stores, but I am excited that Paris Baguette will open in our forest. It will be a welcome addition to the shopping center in the "front" of Kingwood.

Furface11 : Ive lived here for 40 years. The main thing that has changed is the traffic and amount of people. The rest of it feels about the same to me.

ZMAN :
That and the amount of trees. A lot of development. Kingwood drive used to end at the water treatment off road when we moved here.
