Knee Replacement.
Any recommendations for a good knee surgeon? My doctor is over in The Woodlands and is excellent but I'm not sure that I want to travel over there for this.

I do not have a recommendation for physicians however a friend had knee replacement at Methodist at the Med Center a few weeks ago as an outpatient. Please ensure you leave the hospital with proper and adequate pain meds, especially for the first week. Proper meds were a game changer.

These are the 2 I hear of most often by tennis/ golf friends and my parents friends. They are excellent and just as far, if not farther than The Woodlands. I would travel for the best! If yours is excellent, then you should stay with him, in my opinion. Good luck!
If you're willing to go down to the med center, I definitely recommend Dr Ken Mathis at UT Physicians Orthopedics. He specializes in knees and was terrific. But no matter who you choose, the success of your outcome will be whether you are good about your PT afterward. The physical therapist told me to do the exercises every day for six months to achieve maximize flexion, and I did. Now, other than knowing when the weather is cold (!), I don't even remember that I have a titanium knee.
I had an excellent knee surgeon at Houston Methodist who was recommended by two reliable and good friends. He was good. His physician assistant was fabulous. Here is what I would recommend though.
1. Check with you insurance provider to insure he or she is in your network.
2. Check your insurance provider will pay your facility. In other words inpatient verses out patient costs.
3. As someone mentioned in a previous post make sure your meds are provided to you or reported to your pharmacy and "AVAILABLE" to you when you depart the hospital.
4. You can find a walker at many pharmacies or the surgeon may have one for you and bill you or the insurance/ medicare for it.
5. Read and do the physical therapy exercises they gave you prior to the surgery. It will help a lot and prepare you for what's to come.
6. Highly recommended and I repeat highly recommended purchase or rent a recirculating water cooler with a that recirculates cold water on a pad you place on the knee. This was such a life saver and helped me so much. You will be contacted by several companies to purchase that and other contraptions following your knee surgery. Some insurances/Medicare cover some items. Check first.
7. Do your physical therapy as instructed.
8. Take your medications and don't let the pain get ahead of you.
9. You don't know how many friends you truely have until you see them come to your home with wonderful home cooked delicious meals, deserts, walk with you on the street to get you moving around, and just simply care about what you are going through. I was so blessed.
10. Don't over do it. It will take some time but do the physical therapy and move around.
11. If you have a pet, be careful. You don't need it tripping you up or jumping on your lap.
12. Lastly, good luck.
Our friend has had multiple knee surgeries and underestimated a TKR surgery. His pain got ahead of his meds which were inadequate and he had a miserable first week. His doctor prescribed additional meds when he went for his post surgery exam and as I previously mentioned, it was a game changer. He is diligent with PT and improving daily now.
My knee surgeon is at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in the Medical Center. My surgery will likely be next year but it will be TKR since it's severe bone on bone.

I saw Dr Kelly Blevins for both my knee replacements and went to Kingwood Mem Hermann West (by Trader Joe's) for PT. I had great results.

My wife has had 2 TKR surgeries done by Razvan Scobercea at Advanced Orthopedics on Rockmead. She had her 2nd surgery last Tuesday and is doing great. The plus is that he operates at the Memorial Herman Surgical Center on KW Medical Drive behind KW hospital. Surgery on Tuesday morning, home on Wednesday afternoon. 601 Rockmead Dr Suite 100, Kingwood, TX 77339
