ZMAN :
Most people don't want a purple painted house next door! That's one on the things HOA's get you. But, if there is a rogue BOD, HOA's can be a pain!!!

My contractor bought one specific color because it has been approved in every neighborhood he has had to get approval for. That way, any repairs are coming from the same lot and ready to go in a jiffy should someone have trouble.

I think you need your HOA's permission, they'll ask you to describe the details like shingle type and color.

Why anyone would want to pay someone to police what they can do on their own property, is beyond crazy to me.

ZMAN : Meh. I don't want to live & pay taxes in a neighborhood where people park their broken down cars in the yard and have clothes lines across their front yards.

Personal decision. That's why I wanted to live in an HOA but I get why people don't at the same time. I know y'all don't have those issues in FC for the most part.

Joe :
You should consider Class 4 shingles. Wind and hail resistant and your insurance company will lower your rates. GAF makes Timberline AS and Grand Sequoia AS.

ZMAN : Depends on the neighborhood...certain areas of Porter you could easily have a pig farm and a dilapidated meth-house mobile home open up next door if you don't have an HOA, for example...

Joe : Bingo. I don't want to live next to that. Its worth the $400 bucks a year. I've never gotten a nasty letter. I keep my yard and home looking nice and so do my neighbors.

HOA question............. do I need a permit from my HOA or KW Assn to replace my roof in SW Trails ?

billcherie2 : Yes, go ahead and get permission so they can't pick it apart and act like the color is not right or something.
