The release from Conroe during Harvey is exactly what flooded Kingwood. The west fork of the San Jacinto river became clogged by sand from up-river mining operations, which prevented the Conroe release from getting to Lake Houston, which flooded Kingwood. Think of it like a miniature dam of sand a the point the west fork of the San Jacinto river enters Lake Houston, and Kingwood being in the flood plain of the miniature dam. Help us make sense of this

Backed up water caused the Tax Day KW flood and the water couldn't escape SE to Lake Houston. It's been cleared up and dredged by COH but it needs more now.
AI says: The existing Lake Houston dam has four gates with a discharge capacity of 10,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). Where did you see the 14,000 cfs info? To be clear, I'm not doubting you - there's info everywhere (impossible to know what is credible, especially AI!).

The flood damaged KW's psyche.
Skippy, I've written 2800 posts since Harvey containing two million words. I've also taken over 60,000 photos, most from rented helicopters. I agree with your premise. I've documented it ad nauseam. In the search bar on ReduceFlooding, look up "sand mining," "pit capture," "mouth bar," and "dredging." Better yet, I just put up a post about creating a dredging district. Take a minute and ask Sen. Creighton to sponsor it in the senate.Gray boxed for being political and/or controversial in a General Chat discussion.

Skippy : Kingwood floods practically every time it rains heavily. The release maybe why kingwood flooded so badly but it would've flooded regardless during Harvey.
