If you let your outdoor faucets drip during the freeze, do you have to wrap them or the outside pipes leading to them?

Don't drip the outside faucets, just cover them and let faucets in kitchen and baths dribble a bit. Also open cabinet doors under sinks.

NeverPayRetail :
I don't think anyone drips their outdoor faucets; just cover them with either the styrofoam type cover or the insulated mitt kind. Also wrap the pipes by your main line shut off valve going into the house.

SandyKnee : Before I had the mitt covers I would use a bunch of rags and then put a ziploc bag over it and tape all around that, lol.

billcherie2 : back in the day, that's what we used to do, let faucets drip inside and outside. I've been too sick to wrap pipes and cover faucets this year, so was just plannning to let them drip a bit, more like a trickle. I'm so sick, I don't care about my water bill.

Please Tell me more about this...
"Also wrap the pipes by your main line shut off valve going into the house."

Are you talking about the valve that is usually buried in your front yard w/ the meter?

@WaffleHouseVIP : No, the one I was referring to is the one going into your house from the yard. Mine is exposed after it comes up out of the ground, for a few feet going up the front of the house, and then goes into the house. That's where we would turn our water off if we ever had pipes burst inside the house. That pipe is exposed, so we wrap it.

billcherie2 :
I close my bathroom doors, too, as the heat will bank up, to keep the faucets warm. I don't close the doors until I go to bed for the night. I close my bedroom door, too, as the heat banks there, as well
