June is National Gun Safety Month!
JUNE IS NATIONAL GUN SAFETY MONTH! Constable Herman's Gun Safety Tips and giving FREE GUN SAFETY LOCKS!
Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman would like to remind gun owners about the importance of firearm safety especially when children are in the home. It is the gun owner’s most important responsibility to keep their firearms safely stored and in a location where they are out of the reach of small children. Knowing and practicing gun safety is not only crucial in preventing injuries and the tragic loss of a loved one; it is the law. There are several gun safety rules that parents should follow and devices to aid in storing your firearm:
-Always store guns in a locked location, unloaded, out of the reach and sight of children.
-Always store ammunition in a separate locked location, out of the reach and sight of children.
-Keep the keys and combinations hidden.
-When a gun is not in its lockbox, keep it in your line of sight.
-Make sure all guns are equipped with effective, child-resistant gun locks.
-If a visitor has a gun in a backpack, briefcase, handbag or an unlocked car, provide them with a locked place to hold it while they are in your home.
-Leaving guns on a nightstand, table, or other place where a child can gain access may lead to injuries and fatalities.
-Explain to your children how a gun that they might see on television or a video game is different from a gun in real life. “A gun, in real life, can really hurt people.â€
-Teach your children to never touch a gun and immediately tell an adult if they see one.
-Talk to grandparents and parents of the friends that your children visit about gun safety storage practices.

* NEVER point a gun at anything or anyone you don't fully intend to shoot.
* There is no such thing as an unloaded gun... unless it's disassembled.
* Unless sold or stolen, you are responsible for knowing where your firearm is and how it's being used at all times.
* A gun doesn't make you Billy Bad****, nor does it make you invincible. Don't go looking for trouble, nor assume you can't be taken by surprise.
* If you feel in your heart you shouldn't own a gun, you're right. You know yourself.

As he should be!
eighteen : You are right but he will probably do more time than someone that used a gun in a crime.
Craziness now days. Just read where a lady was shot and killed by her own 2 yo!!! Gun should have never been near a 2yo!!!
dac2010 : Good, make an example out of him for being an irresponsible gun owner. Have to start somewhere; because, most guns used in crimes were stolen from a legal gun owner or purchased illegally.
eighteen : Yea, he should know better. Criminals don't know better, they are just a dumb criminal.
