I normally don't tip at fast food franchise places. However, the more I intend to visit other restaurants for takeout, the more I'll tip. It's safer
Tipping at self serve places or pick up. I've noticed that more and more ...they have a tip jar out. Example. Menchies. You go in, select the size container that you want, fill it with yogurt and add your toppings. You go to pay for it and the cashier simply weigh's it and takes your payment yet they want a tip? Why? I did everything myself? IDK.

cbear : Funny you mention this. Son and I went out for breakfast in Cleveland this morning. Brewery something or other. We had to place our order, fetch our own water - no biggie - but when it came time to pay The first thing that pops up on screen is tip prompt, so I clicked the first option thinking it was the smallest amount. Nope - it was the most expensive option - 25%. Gasp! I already clicked it so didnt say anything, just paid it. Damn sneaky if you ask me.

Hit_Bull_Win_Steak : It was on the credit card machine that you run your card through. It had tip percentages when you insert the card and there was no other option.

If I did the work then I tip me!
@MeMyselfAndI : This happened to us on Friday. We went to Jo es Crabshack in Kemah Boardwalk. We ordered our food and paid before receiving food and they were asking for 20% tip. We waited for 45 minutes before drinks arrived then another 45 minutes for food that never that never arrived. The person who took our order never put in our order . I was so mad.
I tip people who see my nearly empty beer glass and fill the damned thing with nothing more than a nod from me to acknowledge that I want it filled.
I tip people who stand out there in the sun washing my car, drying it, getting inside and doing their best to reach down the windshield to clean it inside.
I also tip the ones who clearly are young and trying. They may do it all perfectly yet, but they're learning. I tip them to inspire them.
Great waitstaff and great service providers are rare, sadly very rare. You should always tip them. But tipping people for just doing their job? Nah.
