Need dentist recommendation who will work with uninsured low income patients. Hi, everyone, Can anyone recommend dentists in the area that are affordable for uninsured/low income people? I will need either a root canal or an extraction and tooth replacement. I would also like to find a dentist that doesn't judge because my teeth really aren't the best. I had terrible tooth pain and throbbing for the last week. I managed to find a very affordable place that did x-rays and confirmed an infection (abscess). They recommended a root canal or tooth removal. He said he'd opt for a root canal but once he had a closer look, I might have to get it pulled. The quote without insurance was like 6k (for the root canal and a crown). I do not have that money right now, but I wanted to seek a second opinion. The biggest cost is if the tooth is extracted, it will need to be replaced. I am also starting a job in 3 weeks, otherwise I would just get the tooth pulled, but of course, it's a front tooth, so that wouldn't be a great introduction to my coworkers
Right now I have a weeks' antibiotics, but I know that's just a band aid.

Why not go to one of the dental schol clinics? They are student dentists but are supervised by staff dentists
muffy and beadweaver reacted Dental schools are a great place to save on dental. They are the graduating class that does the work. Back in 76' I broke a molar on a lobster claw. I went to Columbia dental in NYC and they rebuilt the whole tooth. 42 years later I was lounging on the couch eating cream filled carmels and I ate that damn cap. 42 years it lasted. So I second a dental school on a budget.

I, also, say go to the UTHouston Dental School. My husband was a dentist (LSU Graduate) He is no longer practicing, but worked on patients in school. The students are supervised, heavily.
