Need dentist recommendation who will work with uninsured low income patients.

Hi, everyone,

Can anyone recommend dentists in the area that are affordable for uninsured/low income people? I will need either a root canal or an extraction and tooth replacement. I would also like to find a dentist that doesn't judge because my teeth really aren't the best.

I had terrible tooth pain and throbbing for the last week. I managed to find a very affordable place that did x-rays and confirmed an infection (abscess). They recommended a root canal or tooth removal. He said he'd opt for a root canal but once he had a closer look, I might have to get it pulled. The quote without insurance was like 6k (for the root canal and a crown). I do not have that money right now, but I wanted to seek a second opinion.

The biggest cost is if the tooth is extracted, it will need to be replaced. I am also starting a job in 3 weeks, otherwise I would just get the tooth pulled, but of course, it's a front tooth, so that wouldn't be a great introduction to my coworkers Emoticon

Right now I have a weeks' antibiotics, but I know that's just a band aid.

koya : Probably Dr Huffman in Atascosita. IMO, The best Dentist in this area. He does accept Insurance and new patients, probably could do self pay. I think his staff could answer your question about no dental insurance. He would be able to tell you your options at least. Tooth pain is horrible. Call Huffman Dental 281 8527874 Private practice, Be kind to front office lady, she is awesome. He will probably prescribe antibiotics then extraction to save you 💰 if your ok with that. Or root canal and crown. Which can cost a lot but it's not no where near $6000. He has decades of experience. Dr. Huffman and his staff will care about you and will want to help you.

Why not go to one of the dental schol clinics? They are student dentists but are supervised by staff dentists

Joe51 :
Dental schools are a great place to save on dental. They are the graduating class that does the work. Back in 76' I broke a molar on a lobster claw. I went to Columbia dental in NYC and they rebuilt the whole tooth. 42 years later I was lounging on the couch eating cream filled carmels and I ate that damn cap. 42 years it lasted. So I second a dental school on a budget.

I, also, say go to the UTHouston Dental School. My husband was a dentist (LSU Graduate) He is no longer practicing, but worked on patients in school. The students are supervised, heavily.

I recommend Dr Kevin Butler but not sure how he works without insurance. He is great and reassuring with no judging.
