Snowball will be neutered and chipped next week. This will sound stupid to some but I've never had a big dog so not sure how this will work when bringing him home. Will we have to pick him up and put him in the vehicle? Trying to plan things out so we're ready. I know he has to remain calm for a couple of weeks and yes, we've talked to the vet. I just want real-life knowledge from the peeps on here, especially the ones who have Goldens. Oh, and DH asked the vet if Snowball would be mad at him and she said yes, but he's a Golden so not for long. lol.

KanKan : You really want to avoid him jumping anywhere for a while, so I imagine you'll need to at least scoot his rear into the car afterward. I don't have experience neutering a larger dog, though...went through it a couple years ago with our dog Moy, but he's only about 30 lbs.

Joe : I've always had small dogs, too, so this is new for me. He's around 77 pounds and if I remember correctly, they're more or less dead weight after surgery and I'm not sure I'll be able to pick him up. DH has back issues but maybe we can both carry him. We shall see.

just ask the employees to help load Snowball into the car when you pick him up from the clinic.

I would hire someone to help, pet sitter or something. You need someone at your house to help too. Don't chance hurting yourselves, or him. Much safer. Or if you have a strong neighbor. Best wishes!

You probably should get one of those cones so he cannot pull the sutures out. I was told no activity like running for two weeks, no stairs, leash walking for a couple of weeks.

KanKan : He looks so sweet and huggable! Know you are doing the right thing for Snowball. When we had our English Springer Spaniel neutered he was about a year old. We had to pick him up to get him out of the car. Use a large beach towel you can put on the back seat for him to lay on and use it like a sling. It will take 2 people. Our Springer was difficult to make stay still. The next day he was trying to run around like nothing happened but I made him stay inside right by me. We have had others neutered but they were small and easy to pick up. When we took the yorkie we used Texas Litter Control and they required the dog be in a dog carrier and they put him back in it to bring home. I have to say this was the best way to do it but with a large dog it might be impossible to get it out of the car. Also I love these onesies for recovery. They work well and keep the incision covered so the pup can not lick/bite the area. Most vets will put the recovery suit on the dog before they leave the office. I got our recovery suit on Amazon.

Awe he's so sweet! They can help get him in your vehicle at the vet. I would get a soft donut type cone or maybe a surgery suit. I've never gotten a surgery suit but I think I will when I fix my baby when she turns 2. Take the pain meds they offer and give them to him. He will most likely sleep the first day.

Do you have an indoor camera like a Ring so you can keep an ete on him?

We kenneled our pup when she had surgery and couldn't stay immediately by her when she was supposed to be good.

When we had Goliath neutered, he was well over 100#s. Since he was still a bit groggy from being sedated, we had no issue with bringing him home. If possible, get a soft cone or donut to keep him from licking the incision. (You've likely already thought of this!) We didn't have to lift him as he was willing to get into the car on his own.

Txbutterfly :
there is actually a medical product called Neuticals that are artificial testes to replace the natural ones that are removed. and yes, they come in different sizes.
