He was referring to his sense of obligation, not any person or agency compelling him to testify. I, a middle or high schooler was not his lawyer. Actually, I was never his lawyer. He was teaching us, his children, about civic duty, right and wrong, standing up for your and other peoples' rights. Lessons many seem to have not received. Did you not get or give such lessons? If t he answer is no, I feel for you.

If you are an American, are you no y supposed to have a desire for the just application of laws. Playing otcha games over that is silly and offensive. He would have cringed and said that oerson can't pass the test. Then laughed. He advocated for a citizenship test when registering to vote, but knew the nefarious history of such tests, so he only made it with a wry sense. He would have made it today.
