Legal Name change I must commend the women who change their name when they get married, it's a lot of work. As a man who has just went through the process to get my name changed, I found out how much work it is. The steps and cost involved to get it done and then all the work to get everything associated with the old name changed. Still working on changing the birth certificate to match the new/modified me, which is more work since I was born in another state. As a note, I didn't change it to something completely new. Just the shortened version of my first name and a couple of other minor changes. It is the name that I have been using since I was a kid and the name that everyone knows me by. Even the IRS and SS already know me by this name. Anyone else every changed their name?

I changed my name after a divorce. I didn't want to keep his name and wouldn't use my maiden name. I took my mother's maiden name. I also gave myself a middle name, since no on could be bothered to when they named me.
I helped my roommate w his, but it was basically a spelling change, not complete name change. I think it is more difficult to change your name than what women are required for marriage. We dont get our birth certificate changed.
Yes, lots of hoops to jump through.

I haven't changed my name, but found out at age 30 that my birth certificate name, was not the name on all my IRS and bank papers...
My kids named their son a different last name!! Its a combination of the two last names. I have never in my life heard of such thing. Idk you could just put whatever you want on a birth certificate at time of birth if both parents agree.
Just the weirdest damn thing to me. He will be the first ever in the line of that family name.

I tried after I got married. It certainly was not as easy as others had described. The hardest hurdle was the IRS and SSI.
When I tried to get my first passport I ordered my birth certificate and found out my name was still "Baby Boy". That was some work proving my real name.

I will say the courtroom was the quickest part and there were a lot of people there for whatever reason. The judge essentially said she was going to start with the easiest/quickest items first. My name was the first name she called. I got sworn in and answered a couple of questions and she said approved. My scheduled court time was 9am. My paperwork says it was approved at 9:03. And I will add that I started this process a long time ago over a year ago and just kept putting it off. As part of the process there was an FBI fingerprint requirement. Apparently your fingerprints expire after a year so I had to get that done again. Who knew?

So, the name on your birth certificate is Joey Kingwood Dotcom?
I changed mine after getting married and it was a piece of cake.
