Vance's attempt to define socialism 🤭

It wasn't a hard question he was being asked. The reporter asked, "How do you define socialism personally, and why do you think socialist candidates are popping up everywhere across the country?"

His reply is hilarious.

"Oh, man... You know, I guess, it's honestly, it's a hard term to define these days, because very often, socialism, you know, classically you would think socialism is about prioritizing workers.

And yet, in reality, I guarantee that most of the self-described socialists running across the United States of America are going to howl about this announcement today, which is prioritizing American workers over foreign workers. So, I don't know what the term means anymore. I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is, that you want to replace American workers with foreign workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports. That's what unites the socialists that I see running across the United States of America today.

You know, it's funny. Back in 2016, one of the most interesting things that happened is when Bernie Sanders, then, of course, the leading socialist in the United States of America, was asked about open borders he gave an answer that sounded similar to Stephen Miller's. Where he said, 'Of course, we're not going to have open borders because that's gonna displace American workers.' It is ironic that so many of the self-described socialists running across this country, they love the idea of replacing American workers with foreign workers, which suggests to me, it is not really about the working class. It's about their hatred of native-born citizens."

Do you think it's more socialism for his definition, if you can call it a definition, or more socialist to have candidates begging constituents for gas money?
Susan Collins campaign sent emails saying "fuel the tour," and "Organizing a tour of this scale takes a lot of coordination, enthusiasm, and quite literally fuel. Every dollar goes directly toward keeping our team on the road, our events fully stocked, and our bus powered from stop to stop." She is one of three Republican candidates doing this.

Common Forms of Socialism

• Democratic Socialism: Seeks to establish a socialist economic and political system through democratic means, rejecting authoritarianism and full state control.
• Social Democracy: Often confused with pure socialism, this model (seen in Nordic nations like Sweden and Denmark) keeps a capitalist economic framework while using heavy regulation, strong labor laws, and expansive welfare programs to support the public.
• State Socialism / Planned Economy: The government directs and manages nearly all economic activity, production, and pricing (historically associated with the Soviet Union).

The problem is that socialism is always presented in conservative circles as state socialism which isn't what I think anyone wants here.

I don't know anything about the so-called socialist candidates but I'd bet most are for a system more aligned with Social Democracy.

RolloTomaso :
Did you ever see the SCTV bit that was movie parody of all the 1950s 1960s B rates called 'I Was a Teen-aged Communist'? It's a classic. They have SCTV up on Netflix now. All this schtick with the red menace again reminds me of this sort of silliness. Eugene Levy as an immortal Lenin converting teenagers into werewolf Communists is hilarious.
