Does anyone else have a family member they feel bad for that have to work until an older age? One of my sisters is, and I feel bad for her. Her husband passed away 10 years ago, and she has 3 kids that don't go away. Her career job is gone and now she works 2 retail jobs. But I guess she is happy enough. I would not be.

rocklady2024 :
She is almost 73 and having some medical issues. Nothing major, but still. I know her kids take advantage and it is sad. But not my business.

Unfortunately her choices are difficult. Prayers she finds a way and the courage to make needed changes.

Kaylagirl : I'm all for people working as long as they want to but 73 is a bit old to be working 2 jobs. The kids need to step up and take care of themselves. It is about time. They have to be full grown adults by now. If she had her first child when she was 23 they would be 50 now. I would say they need to get off their butts and do their part. Have you talked to her about it? Maybe she needs to have someone to help encourage her to make them do their part.

She is letting them take advantage. Supporting grown able bodied kids is a choice.

Her first 2 are 50 and 55...on their own for ages. The other 2 are 36 and 44, and the 44 year old has a teenager. The 44 year old just lost her f/t job and now works pt time. They do not contribute anyway as far as I know. The younger one has always been saving to move. For years. The older one is very entitled. Her and her daughter seem to live it up and I can tell my sister is resentful of that. Her son talked to her about all this and she told him to butt out basically. They do not live close so I cannot get into her business too much.

From 50,000 ft, every decision you make in life acts like a seed that inevitably produces a harvest, forming a direct line between your daily choices and your future reality.

It is sad that they are taking advantage of her. All you can do is listen when she needs to vent, and remind her to take care of herself, too. Might be hard for her, but she needs to learn to say "No", and mean it. Not always easy , for some people Emoticon

Kaylagirl :
I have to say that if they are all still living with her, maybe it's time to make her home not so..."homey". No cable, no internet, minimal groceries/basics, do not cook. I know that might be hard on her for a bit, as well, but she can use the internet at work, and if the other people in the house Want those things, she can tell them, They can pay for them. She can tell them she simply does Not have the money, and maybe they will reconsider, when everything is not provided?
