I've been with them a year and loved my rate. If I can't keep my rate, I will be switching again. I recommend to everyone when you are up for renewal, shop the market.
It's not so much as what the dollar amounts are, it's the number of kWh used. My bill is pretty close to last years because my usage was only a tad higher than last year. Look at your usage and adjust from there.

It is not just the electric bill that is high, water, gasoline, garbage, groceries and insurance ( health, home, auto and life) is outrageous.

This may help someone? I use SFE, was $283.07 this month, and "average price" was $0.147 per kWh.
Cbear and buffaloglenn reacted 80.32 for me. Reliant. I do use fans liberally, though. I have two Pelonis fans at each end of the long hall. The fans are powerful but quiet and I have found circulation is key.
I think it helps, too, that I do my own yard work; indoors with some cool feels well ... cool.

#msg6021089My bill was the highest I have ever had in the 28 years I have lived here over $750 dollars.
Ours were May $388.11, June $401.23, July $466.09, August $482.08, September $439.07, nowhere near $750. We have a pool, 2 A/C units, 2 in the household, gas hot water heater, newer dual pane low e windows, we could do better with insulation.
How big a house do you have?
How many people in your household?
How many A/C units? How old are those units? When was the last time you had them serviced? When was the last time you changed the filter(s)?
Do you have a pool?
Is your home insulated?
Are your windows single pane?
Do you have any gaps in windows or doors?
Is your hot water heater gas or electric?

#msg6021900Cbear : www.aetexasco.com/ these guys ... I think? never heard of them before now
One couple lives here; no kids. 2 A/C units: 1.5 ton, 3.5 ton. Single pane mostly; insulated walls and added insulation on top of the existing fiberglass blankets in the attic. Fans in most rooms for circulation: YES, circulation is important. No gaps in windows..and I check them every fall to determine if added sealant is needed................very minor gaps on two doors at the threshold, but I use weather stripping to seal the gap. Yes, pool /pool filter 8- 10 hrs per day. Electric dryer used most every day.......electric dual ovens typically used on weekend............gas hot water tank and gas stove top..used every day. I clean out A/C units of leaves and mud every spring.........send Drain Chemicals down the drains at the evaperators....and change air filters out three times a year.
