#msg5995110Cbear : Having lived in PA around railroad tracks those levers that trigger the signal before the crossing can freeze and not work in the winter. ALWAYS LOOK BOTH WAYS!

#msg5995087Cbear : on the east coast it's law to stop and look both ways at a train track -- at least it was when I learned to drive

I'm a career railroader,....... It's impossible to accurately judge train speed looking straight down the track. Don't do it. You not only kill yourself, the train crews often suffer PTSD for a long time and leave the railroad.
buffaloglenn reacted #msg5995376MissAmericanPie : Oh wow a torn calf?! thanks obama
#msg5994967Don't ignore train crossing arms! Houston man dead A 73-year-old man died early Monday after his vehicle was stuck on railroad tracks while he was attempting to drive around lowered crossing arms, before being hit by a train in north Harris County, authorities said. The train's conductor told deputies the man attempted to go around the railroad crossing arms rather than wait for the crossing to clear. His vehicle became stuck on the tracks, and the approaching train hit the car, according to HCSO. The man was the only person inside the vehicle. He died at the scene, authorities said. His identity has not been released. Aerial footage from the scene showed the train stopped on the tracks with the crossing arm still lowered. The vehicle was several hundred feet ahead of the train. www.chron.com/news/a rticle/houston-train -car-crash-22401447. php
