No one should be wearing sleeveless shirts, shirts that show the midriff, short shorts, or tight clothes, regardless of gender.

WahineB :
same for me, 1974 hs grad. I have to say that if I got sent home, I got in trouble after school, no discussion. My parents both worked, and my brothers took me to school, so my folks did not always see my outfit. If I Tried to sneak a shorter skirt past, and got sent home, I was grounded. Did not do that twice. My parents did not coddle us, at all. Didn't hurt us none, either. Emoticon

Are other middle schools having this issue? How about the high schools?
I have always heard very good things about the staff and administrators at Creekwood.
Has something changed or is this a situation of a very vocal group protesting the same dress code the other schools have not had issues with?
I'd like to hear from other middle school parents regarding this topic.

#msg5994287JerryJustice : Who's Dr Rick? Not getting your way, and being mature about it, may be going the way of the dino.

MissAmericanPie : They started a petition and outlined clear goals. I dont think a lack of maturity is in play here.

My granddaughter was wearing what she called "boy shorts" today. She said the girls were all wearing them today because of the dress code. She described them as long. They were much shorter than what my school used to allow except during PE. Ours couldn't be above our fingertips with our hands to the side.

I agree. They are being reasonable. If girls can't wear sleeveless shirts, then boys shouldn't either.

" I noticed a troubling pattern: taller and more physically developed girls were frequently targeted by dress code enforcement, while boys seemed immune to such scrutiny for similar attire.
This experience highlights a fundamental issue: the current Humble ISD dress code is both sexist and inconsistently applied, unfairly targeting girls over boys. It's time for this outdated and discriminatory code to be revised to ensure fairness and equality for all students, regardless of their gender.
The dress code claims to encourage a focus on education, yet its current enforcement often detracts from academic learning by disproportionally drawing attention to girls' bodies. It perpetuates the harmful notion that girls are responsible for boys' distractions, shifting the blame instead of fostering a healthy educational environment."

You really think a middle schooler wrote that?? I think they had some "help" and maybe its the parents who want this??

MissAmericanPie : I think a middle schoolers outlined their complaint to ChatGPT and it worded it up.......just like half the adult population is currently doing with work emails.

Lol, ok. I guess thats ok. But i think they are wrong and the parents should support them following these basic dress codes. Its not a social dilemma or move to discriminate against females. Were so paranoid now.

I taught high school history right out of college. There was a dress code in place for students AND teachers. Females were not allowed to wear pants or even pant suits. Dresses could not be more than 4" above or 4" below the knee. If female hair was below the shoulder it had to be in a ponytail or tied back. Boys hair had to be in a neat hair cut and no facial hair. I think boys had to wear shirts with buttons but I may be wrong. So, the kids griped about it. I was OK with it. I certainly wouldn't have worn a nice and (for me) an expensive pantsuit to school, anyway. Then one afternoon IT happened. The students walked out of class and congregated in the front of the school where a local TV crew was waiting for them. I don't really remember what happened as I found another job that summer.

My wife is 5'10". She constantly got dress code violations in middle/high school because she was/is tall and they didn't make clothes that fit to dress code standards. Literally. My wife is a goodie two shoes and didn't break it on purpose.

I am 6'2". My girls are going to be tall and are going to have the same problem when they are older. I think the dress code is necessary but I also think assistant principals use it as a tool to exert control.

Honestly, maybe the best solution is to make them wear uniforms.

I am thinking if they are that upset, maybe they should go back to school uniforms. No more questions.

All I took from the petition and comments on the Change.org (not surprised) site was that boys cannot control themselves and are to blame for the need of a dress code. Is sexual harassment rampant at Creekwood / schools everywhere??

I suppose one could say I no longer have a dog in the fight as our kids are adults now. However, we still pay school taxes, so I'll offer my two cents. I think the best solution, as some have already alluded, is to have uniforms. Though that would help tremendously, there will still be those rebels that alter said clothing to show more skin.

Some people are natural born dare devils. As such, they will fight conformity as much as they possibly can. It's part of human nature. Having said that, the way some of these teachers dress nowadays is concerning too. Now that they're necessarily wearing sexy clothes. It's more of setting a poor example by dressing in less than dignified clothing given their position as examples for the students.
