#msg5994298Athens85 : Stop it
Every time parents run up to the school and pitch a fit because someone told their little darling angel "NO" then filing suit has greatly contributed to this current behavior. Don't like something…scream and protest about it. Still don't like something…contact the media and claim some form of discrimination. Still can't take "NO" for an answer…sue and drag everyone into court.

I was in High School in the 1960/70's. The era of the mini-skirt. All girls had to wear dresses or skirts...no shorts, pants or jeans. Boys wore dress pants. If you had shop or gym class, you changed into the jeans or jumpsuits/shorts.
Every morning, as a girl walked in, she had to kneel and have the skirt height above the knee measured. So girls had to get to school an hour earlier than boys every day. If your skirt was too short, you were given a skirt provided by the school district -ancient, long and scratchy.
We stopped gaming the system. We all decided we'd rather not push the limits and have an extra hour of sleep...AND not get tardiness applied and not have transportation complaints from parents as siblings. This is a take as old as time.

Id like pics of the girls' outfits that were in the office. The boys wear baggy clothes, the girls do… Not! :0

I can't figure out what they mean by boys vs girls.
Are they saying boys are wearing what we called "wife beater " undershirts or tank shirts to school and not getting in trouble for it?
I'm sorry but I'm old fashioned enough to believe that girls are just as responsible as boys in making sure they are not being distracted by clothing!
I was curvy and was perfectly capable of staying within our schools dress code which was the same back in the day. No tank tops, bra straps couldn't show, etc.
I'm not sure what the length of skirts has to be now but skorts solve that problem.
I had a friend with a really tall daughter that had some problems and she had to order tall clothing for her.
Shorts should have at least a 5 inch inseam so their butt's don't hang out. NO yoga pants!
I loved it when my daughter had to have uniforms in grade school! The kids complained about personal expression and the school caved. I let my daughter show expression with hair styles, barrettes, etc.
When I came home I changed into my halter tops and short shorts.

#msg5994317I think the little girl got called out on her clothing and thought she was immune. She is in Middle School she needs follows the rules. She does not make the rules. Mommy cannot save her all the time. Time to grow up.

I never thought I'd be the one for uniforms in school but it makes it so much easier. When I moved here from LA, DS had to wear uniforms here. I loved it but my wallet really loved it. Red, white, or navy polo shirts with navy or khaki pants/shorts. Five shirts, three pants, and two shorts bought at Mervyn's along with new shoes and he was set. He wore uniforms from 3rd up until HS. Now in LA, they also have uniforms. Sounds like this would fix some issues.

#msg5994274They should restrict the dress code even further and actually enforce it. It's school, not a night club. Look at what happened to the rodeo. People have no boundaries and no taste when it comes to appropriately dressing themselves. School and public, family-oriented events are no place to push boundaries and test the rules. Stand out by looking your best, appropriately covering your body and concentrate on learning. Leave the "dress for shock value" at home.
I think it is good that kids are using their voice and exercising their free speech whether I agree with what they're proposing or not. Every generation has done it, from the silent generation and civil rights, to boomers and anti-war protests on campus, GenX and the Skokie Free Speech Precedent. It's really all about getting the youth engaged. Just my .02.

I think the "threat" of going to uniforms would stop a lot of the complaining. I think everyone would get in line with the dress code if they felt it was do that or everyone wears a uniform. Personally, I think the uniforms are the equalizers in so many ways. Helps blur the lines between the "haves" and the "have nots" as well as the looks and comments made about others' clothing. I think it may also put a little discipline back into things which seems to be sorely needed.
