Estate Sales and Parking!

TEXASGIRLMAMMA: I didn't know it was okay to tell people to not park on the street. I hate it when I have to drive down a Kingwood residential street between cars parked on both sides of the streets. It is scary, and I am always afraid a this car will appear coming toward me. Our streets are not safe. Is there a law about street parking?Neghbors across the street park on the street beside my house instead of their own driveway; so rude!

Texasdaughter : It isn't okay to tell people they can't park on the street. No one has control over who parks in front of their house. I don't believe there is a law about parking on both sides of the street but, I do know that if an emergency vehicle can not fit down a street it is against the law and the authorities can be called to make people move their cars. I would not like it if my neighbors constantly parked in front of my house. It would seem rude to me. I don't park in front of their houses. Getting back to estate sales. I find when they have a sale they generally ask people to park on only one side of the street if the street is a small/skinny street. In Kingwood streets are normally big enough to have cars parked across from each other and cars can still drive thru without a problem. When it is that way, I putter along very slowly. Not because of the cars but because it is difficult to see the people who might try darting across the street. When a car comes toward me I pull into a spot in front of a driveway till they pass and then continue. I have never had to back up.

It's common courtesy. I can legally camp in my car in front of your house for x hours. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Texasdaughter : As long as the car is facing the correct direction and is not "broken down" there is no law preventing street parking. We had an issue once with a neighbor that had a car parked on the street for weeks and the car was never driven or moved during that time and the city did ticket them. The vehicle needs to be operational.
With estate sales my worry is always that it can make it hard for people to back in to load large items. I am always worried a neighbors car will get hit. And that did happen once.
