Estate Sales and Parking! I love going to estate sales and went to 3 today here in the Kingwood area. Does it bother you when people in your area have an estate sale? Do you stand outside and tell people they can't park on the street? Do you spend your entire day monitoring the parking situation? If so are you exhausted at the end of the day? It was a hot one! I hope you drank enough water. They will be there tomorrow too. Rest up for another day of monitoring! Just remember, most likely the people who lived there have either died, are now in a nursing home, or living with family. Whoever is handling their affairs has to get rid of all the stuff in that house. They most likely need to sell it so they can pay off debt, hospital bills, nursing home, maybe settle the estate. We will all eventually have to sell it. Our kids will not want much of it! Hopefully, they have their own by the time we are gone. We should give people in this situation some grace cause we will want grace when it is our time. What's a few days of street congestion~ it's only a few days!

TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Lol, I hate to tell you, but they have legal right to park at the curb, even if it Is in front of your home. Yes, it is a hot time to have to go through all of that, and it is stressful, too. My sister and I put on a sale when a close family member passed away, and it took us days to get ready, then the sale, then the After sale clean up. Whew!

LittleTexas : Yes, It is an enormous endeavor and when the neighbors misbehave it is even worse. It only take 2 or 3 days to have an estate sale. Then they are forever out of your life. Neighbors should suck it up and give those people a break! Every estate sale I go to makes sure there is room for emergency vehicles to get through. They put up signs if they feel it is needed.

LittleTexas : Yes, They do a great job and they have to put up with the neighbors acting like the sky is falling because of a 2 day estate sale. I just don't get the way people act.
TEXASGIRLMAMMA : I haven't minded the estate sales on our street. I know the people are only there a few minutes and leave so if they block my driveway I just wait.

It's the swim team families that show up from 7am to 3pm blocking my ability to get out of my driveway that I dislike. I put up no parking signs across the street so I can back out of my driveway and same for my neighbor.
Wiseowl : That is very nice of you to be so understanding. Swim Team is a whole another can of worms! The board members are responsible for making sure people do not block the driveways of the residents. My kids were on swim team for 18 years and I was a board member. If they are not making sure you can get out of your driveway you can go to your HOA and make a complaint. The HOA will make them do what they are supposed to.

Donnawisdom : It's maybe 3 Saturdays a year for 8 hours each.
We probably waste that much time in Houston traffic each month.

Then halfway another lawn truck comes with a trailer. Of course they don't want to wait at their end for me. I found one space I was able to pull into. I did not want to back up. It is very difficult for me and I might have ended up hitting vehicles.

ForestFinds : Sorry that happened to you. No one would want that to happen but, there is nothing wrong with people parking on both sides of the street. People have to be patient and wait their turn. As far as the yard crews go, they need to learn to park next to the curb instead of sticking out into the street 3 feet. They just stop in the middle of a street and drop their ramp. They could be up against the curb. « Back to Chat
