This time they were not honking at me as I was going straight, not turning. It was not one car but several vehicles honking further back. They just think, green you need to go, not there could be someone in the crosswalk or debris in the road which never gets cleaned.

KingwoodNana : Sometimes people have to be reminded that "right turn on red" is permitted, not required. And if you were tailgating me while I was already doing five over, we are NOT going to be in a hurry at the intersection. Drafting is for NASCAR and freeway driving, not residential streets.

I was just complaining to my husband about this! I have definitely noticed it.

There are 2 sides to this, yes sometimes there is a honk the second the light turns, and there could be pedestrians or red light runners- a pause is acceptable. But MOST of the time it is someone on their phone not paying attention to the light and it causes others to miss the light - not cool. Horns have different sounds too, a quick beep is a friendly "het look at the light" a long HOOONK is "WAHT ARE YOU DOING?!?!" or there is danger. Use your horn wisely!

Most of the honking at red/green lights that I witness is due to someone sitting at a green light finishing their text message.

The new cars with their gas economizing basically shut down when you are at a light. Many people do not know how to change that setting. On Toyota's and Alexus, you have to do it every time you start the car.....

Donnawisdom : We always told our kids NEVER immediately take off after a light turns green. Count 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi as fast as you can then look both ways.

Exactly, when I come out of the Trader Joes parking lot, the lane choice is a left only or a straight/right option. I need to go straight. Someone 9/10 will honk at me because I am not turning right on red. I get it if there are other lanes for straight and I try to be in them, but that isn't the case.
Overall, people just need to chill on the road.

When it's your turn, go. Stop signs are worse. You don't have to wait for a wave from oncoming traffic. And please don't stop in the middle of the road because you see a pedestrian waiting to safely cross. Yielding the right of way creates confusion for everyone

ForestFinds : That seems to be the trend. If everyone would just take a beat when waiting in line at a traffic light. The 3 seconds I wait to make sure the cross traffic is going to stop at the red light and check right, left, right for people walkers, runners and cyclists isn't goint to get you anywhere any faster.
