I knew several people who had to go through the process with their spouse. It is a lengthy expensive process and their spouse had to return to their country and remain there for 3 years. This was for US American male with a foreign spouse who was not in the country lawfully. I put the scenario through AI and this is what it gave me to explain the process. Realitycheck : Had he followed the process he wouldn't have been targeted. He left his country for whatever reason. He stayed, lived and built a life here. Started a business, had a family and reaped the rewards for 35 years.
He put himself in that position and it caught up with him.
Bad choices have bad consequences.
I imagine with the ICE crackdowns it motivated him to begin the process and he was probably looking over his shoulder hoping he could beat the clock.
