Just a 30% Surge in Houston Businesses for FIFA I am looking for the link to post, but Ch 2 KPRC news' reporter Sandy Torres spoke to businesses and hotels in downtown, to find out how they did, re the increased FIFA crowds. Seems as though 30% is the general consensus, with hotels and restaurants Not seeing the huge surge, most days, that they were told to expect. I know it was expensive to go to the Fan Fest, but seems like those who went to the Festival area did not stay in the area, to eat and drink at local spots, afterwards. 
Being a restaurant owner is Not for the faint of heart. Did you go downtown, at All, during the festivities and games?

kingwooddiscgolf: still, City of Houston said it was only 30% increase. FIFA made it seem like their crowds would make it closer to 50 or 60% One hotel said the only time there was a good surge was 4th of July, and they always do very well then, due to downtown festivities, each year.

LittleTexas : The only time I was in that area was when I took my mom to MDA. We did not visit any other places. I got out of there ASAP!
LittleTexas : wondering...what do tickets for soccer games cost? Are they in the thousands like NFL? Not in my budget but high ticket prices impact available spending on other things

donnatella : that's a huge reason I don't consider going to big games...just crazy $$ on ticket prices,,,it's about the money for me. Plus I cannot get over a $15 glass of beer or $10 hotdog. Not doing it.
Fireba11 : Plus outrageous parking fees, long lines, huge crowds. Just not appealing to me. Would rather stream and watch it on the big screen, in my den, in cozy clothes, with my favorite snacks and drinks.
LittleTexas : Yes I was in the area the first or second week. Seen more people during an Astros game. Talked to a gas station owner near by the arena. He said the same.
Fireba11 : the tickets were Very expensive. It seemed people mostly either attended the game, and spent their money on parking, drinks and food while in the stadium. Or, they went to Fan Fest, and also spent their money there, on parking, food, drinks, t-shirts and merch. At that point, both groups of people were probably done spending a lot of money in the area. People stayed in hotels near IAH, as the rates were much better, and they could ride the Metro/ride share, to the soccer areas.
