Man Driving that Tesla when it crashed into a Katy Home Arrested

They will find out why, To cancel the auto pilot, a driver has to disengage by saying "Autopilot off", , press the brake pedal, or take your hands fully off of the wheel . Seeing the video of how fast he was going upon impact shows the truth, and he will probably be charged with vehicular manslaughter. So sad; that lady was the fulcrum of her family, and very much loved.

I don't know why the driver made that choice, maybe he didn't fully understand how it worked, and didn't realize it would override the system. In any case, he was definitely at fault, and I feel that he should be charged with vehicular manslaughter. There was absolutely no reason for him to be driving that fast, and using self driving in a residential neighborhood.

i agree, neither do I. He is Alive to answer those questions. Their Mom is not Got to be consequences, and it does not seem it was the car's 'fault'. ? We shall see in the next few weeks, as this develops.

CatalinaD : From what i understand, when in autopilot, you dont use the gas or brake pedals, and in doing so you override autopilot. He was going 70mph into the house and autopilot slows DOWN in residential areas. It all points to drugs, alcohol or suicide. They have not said substances were found in his blood.

Either way, he was going so fast his rear wheels came off the ground which was way too fast in a residential area. I have a hard time believing that was a Tesla issue.

MissAmericanPie : Yes, that is correct. I never use mine, but my DH has used his on occasion on the highway. From what I read, this driver pushed the accelerator all the way down to the floor, and it did an override on the system. The cars have an auto braking system where if you get too close to another car, or a curb, etc., there are alarm sounds that notify you to watch your speed, and distance, and in most cases starts slowing down and putting on the brakes for you. You can change it a little so it isn't too sensitive, but mine always slows down automatically when I approach a stop sign or a traffic signal, or if a car is turning in front of me. This is why I say it has to completely be a driver error. He either didn't know how to operate the vehicle properly, or he did it deliberately. The speed in which he was going through a neighborhood is absolutely unacceptable.
