Flood watch issued until Monday PM.

URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX

941 AM CDT Fri May 22 2026

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

*WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

*WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following areas - Austin, Bolivar Peninsula, Chambers, Colorado, Inland Harris, Montgomery, Northern Liberty, Southern Liberty and Waller.

*WHEN...Through Monday evening.

*IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
Areas along the coast, especially Matagorda and Brazoria Counties received 6-8" of rainfall over the past three days. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

StormChaser :
Thanks for the heads up. It's always fascinating that it can be bright and sunny and then insane storms and rain in no time here.

StormChaser :
Thanks . I noticed south of us already had flood watches. It's beautiful today so I guess we should enjoy it before the rains come.

StainlessSteelR : That's one of the things I had to get used to about Houston. It could be clear and sunny all day and then suddenly a big storm will come through. Or, it could be sunny where you are, and your family and friends could be going through a thunderstorm in their part of town. I've even seen it rain on the other side of the street, and not get a drop on our side. So, so, strange.

StormChaser :
Thank you for keeping us informed. It always feels strange whenever we are having clear skies and sunny weather, and have a flood warning at the same time. Lol

We've been here in Texas over fourty years and I'll never get used to it. The raining on one side of the street while the other remains dry has always been amusing.

StainlessSteelR : Yep, I've been here nearly forty years and it's something that I still struggle to explain to my family up North. They find it somewhat amusing, but also a little alarming. Lol

Heads up guys: We could see some strong cells around the area later today.

HRRR models (future scans) are showing some discreet looking cells in & around Harris County during that timeframe.

Future radar scans now show little to no rain this evening.....I still think this might end up being a busted forecast so keep that in mind for the weekend.

Wonder if any of the weathermen on TV are embarrassed for their mistakes in predicting rain all week long as much as 80% on some days. Shame on them, lol.
