Is there a gardening club for beginners in Kingwood online? Just planted my first garden in close to 30 years!

catperson1 : Well look at you! I'm doing a container garden but smaller than last year due to a ton of traveling. There's something so special about eating food straight from the garden.

The only thing I'd comment on your beautiful garden is to keep an eye on that round tub. When summer comes that metal will heat up the soil and fry the roots. I'm facing that issue here in AZ. Not with metal but with clay pots. I raise everything in pots. I can't grow a tomato to save myself. I had a gardener tell me to bury the pot so I may do that next.
Good luck- I grew wonderful veggies in TX

We did run irrigation so they're soaker hoses in them, the reason we had to do the containers is that's where the tree was that hit the house during hurricane Beryl so we can't dig deep its all root under there.

@ well I guess I'll they be inside plants. My mom always had a pot of celery and Romain from scraps when I was a kid on the kitchen windowsill in Utah

Your veggie garden looks beautiful! I belong to Kingwood Garden Club and have also belonged to Westlake Houston Garden Club which has monthly nighttime meetings if that suits you better.

I am selling tickets to the Dreamscape Garden Show in April. Anyone can PM me if you would like to go or have questions about either garden club. The show is going to be fantastic!!!!
Sometimes the library has talks from Master Gardeners from A&M on growing vegetables in Texas. I looked to see if another series is coming up but didn't see one on their schedule. The classes I went to were really great! Maybe Vinbert can let us know the next time they offer one.

I understand-I do it because my soil is hard packed sand. However all the soakers in the world will not solve the soil getting heated from that metal tub getting heated up. About the best thing you could do is put the smaller tub in shade. The reason that smaller container will heat the soil is because it is smaller. Right now I have my winter tomatoes in shade between my citrus trees. Very soon I will be putting all my heat sensitive plants under the citrus or under shade cloth. Some like my Oxalis and plumeria will come inside.
You might be ok until June/ July, but whatever you are growing in that smaller container will probably die

Also grow that romaine and celery inside- getting a little late for those crops to be outside.
Outside crops to be planted now are tomatoes, peppers, start cucumbers and squash. eddyfree is a good source for info- he's been very prolific there. I grew mainly tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and basil. Lettuce inside in my hydroponic gardens

I had the same problem last year....My tomato plants grew great but wouldn't produce....Then they all of a sudden started producing in October after it got much cooler....You might want to try these varieties that are "heat tolerant": Heatmaster, Early Girl, Phoenix, Solar Fire, Florida 91....I haven't tried them yet but think I'll try one of them this year...

Also, if you haven't already, consider putting a "solar shade" over them....I keep one over my main garden unless it's party cloudy or rainy....

I got mine from Temu and they were pretty cheap....Under $20....

Wow! That looks great. If you want to continue your skill, I have plenty of space you can play in.
