Those trees get 30' tall and are breathtaking. The big ones, like these used to be, are planted in the median of WLHP between Will Clayton and the beltway. Whoever cut these has no business pruning anything.

I would think if someone bought a crepe myrtle tree or trees, planted them in their yard, they could prune them any way they want. Many people disregard the OP's method/opinion, and opt for the clean look of that which was posted in the OP pic. Just a difference of opinion.

Very ugly pruning. I agree. However I have 2 of these and 1 never blooms and the other one does, but not how it is supposed to. So I am not thrilled with them but still would not chop that low.

Crepe Myrtles supposedly only bloom on new wood so if you don't trim, you will have a very green tree with less blooms.
