I now see why brick and mortar stores are closing I went into Michael's on 1960, and when I was ready to check out, I had to hunt down a clerk who tried to pass me off to the self checkout. I said "I don't do those." She was visibly put out and huffed for having to give more than a 5 second point to the register. CVS was also like that as well a while back. This is why I won't shed a tear when hearing online retailers are causing places like Michael's to close up shop. That lack of basic customer service will cost them what little business they have left. Another reason I check Amazon and Walmart online FIRST for almost anything non-grocery.

Totally agree with you. When a store worker asks me self checkout, I politely ask them to get a manager so that I can give my social so that I can receive a paycheck for working at their store. Someone always steps in to ring me out. Don't they realize that these self checkouts are taking their job?

Always use self check-has it been awhile since you've been to Michaels pretty much all they have is self check

If a business is Not going to have visible, pleasant employees to check me out, then give me a Working kiosk, and I will do it. But, for My doing the work, I Do expect better prices, since they are clearly Not paying employees. Stopped at Taco Bell for a burrito; they now do Not let customers order at the counter, so they directed me to the kiosk. One of the 2 of them, was out of order. I am good at navigation of these kiosks, and this one Keeps asking me to 'join'. Nope. I finally stood at the counter til one of the kids, a nice young man, came over and I asked to do my order 'old school'. Reminded him that the Senior Discount is Not on the kiosk, either. He did my order and added that discount, and it was ready, quickly. I told him He did a Great job re customer service. Taco Bell...not so much, and we both laughed.

People complain about AI taking their jobs and freaking out about what the future will bring but they don't realize , by being so ignorant ,rude and useless will do just that, they will be replaced.
In my opinion will get to a time where AI will handle a lot of jobs and people will get to a point when they will crave that human interaction and personal attention that only a human being can provide ( well not all of them obviously)...
So many companies now accept on line payments for products received or for charge card payments but do many now are adding a surcharge for paying this way. I paid property taxes today and the pay over the phone stated the percentage surcharge to use your debit or credit card. I decided to go to the courthouse and pay, not too bad my wait was less than 30 minutes and I was told if you pay with cash or check no extra charge. My water company is the same way. Looks like everyone wants to make extra money off of the consumer but no reduction in the cost of the service.

I was just in Michaels last week for picture frame. First time I have seen the self checkout there.

Not all, certainly, but many workers are out there to do the least they must to collect a paycheck, neither knowing nor caring that while their employer hires them and issues their checks, the money that funds those paychecks comes from customers. Giving customers something desireable they cannot get from online ordering will give them cause to come back. Failing to do that will do the opposite, drying up the payroll funding, and ultimately killing the business. Some understand and appreciate that, but sadly, too few do.
SteveT, turkeyandchips and icare reacted Was this the Michael's across from the mall? It's very poorly run and I don't go there anymore. The Michaels at WLH/1960 is completely opposite. Always a cashier to oversee self check and cashier check out if requested.
