The settlement began to grow when early plantation owners, finding it impossible to live in the swampy, though fertile, Brazos River bottoms, built their homes on the high prairie lands away from the threat of floods. The settlement was named for the Pitts family, who operated a store and distributed the mail. All the people up the Brazos River who did not get their mail at Richmond were included in Pittsville. [more in link]"It seems odd that there would be 2 Pittsville, Texas locations about 60 miles apart. Both now no longer exist, and only one (the above) has a historical marker. The last known resident of the Ft Bend County Pittsville left in 1947.I'd like to learn more about why that is. I suppose the Kingwood Pittsville was just less historically significant.

I'm with you there. I have been here 44 years. I live in Greentree, Foster's Mill and Sand Creek were all developing villages at that time.The one development I approve of, since I moved here, however, is the Northpark bridge over 59. Crossing the Northbound lanes, and merging into the southbound lanes from the median, was quite an adventure.

Joe : I've seen Pittsville on Google map before and this is were Google maps places it, right in the Anderson Rd. Area.

Wasn't there also a store that rented small power equipment and tools? It was owned by Kingwood residents.

teatime : Yes, Hayden's and the Blue Marlin were across the lake on the WLHP.

I must have moved here before you. When I first moved here in the 70s as a kid, there were no over passes to 59 from either KWD or Northpark. You actually had to cross 59 and accelerate on the shoulder to go southbound. The only over pass/ feeder to southbound 59 was via 494 by Wolfs Garden Land, now a golf cart place.

teatime : Blue Marlin was on the river across from Forest Cove. Off 1960 bypass you would take the road by Northwoods pool supply and the 3 par golf course that is closed. Hydens was in the area where Red Lobster is now.

TXSunDvl : Koshnick rentals.....now Eastex rentals. They rent RVs and Trucks now, maybe still some power wquipment.
