#msg6021856TEXASGIRLMAMMA : Nothing sticks out the window, but the window does have to be open by about 8 inches or so.

buffaloglenn : Good solution right there!

#msg6021863Cbear : Consider getting a variable speed pool pump. Mine saved about $50/month on electricity usage and paid for itself in less than two years, and it is super quiet.

buffaloglenn : It is variable. I had to replace a year or so ago and that is all that was offered.

#msg6021888Cbear : Its up and running. Nothing sticks out so the hoa snitch***** cant whine. Unit weighs around 80 lbs. As quiet as a refrigerator running so negligible. So instead of cooling the entire upstairs with the big trane unit...i will leave it at 79 or 80 and when Kathleen goes to sleep she can put it at 65. Downstairs stays on 72 and same in garage

Ray : Thanks for the information. I know what you mean about the HOA folks. Snitches get stitches! LOL~!

#msg6021828Cbear : I would love to have a bill of only $418. That was a long time ago for me.

Donnawisdom : Well, I suspect you have a much larger home than mine which is only 2200 sq feet plus, 2 + people at your home = more laundry, dishes etc.

Exactly!! My house is very small, but when I had big electric bills many years ago in the Summer, they told me about level billing. I love it!! I do not have crazy low bills in the Winter... (not much Winter anyway) but also no heart attack when I open the electric bill in the Summertime.

#msg6021817I am fighting back.... My light bill is crowding 500 mark ...I have 3500+ square feet...2 large trane ac units and a 26000 btu large garage window unit. Will now keep upstairs at 79. Got this unit for the one room. I can keep it at 62 no problem. That's perky nipples cool! Thing works great. Cost to run less than a freezer. Very efficient.

Ray :

Ok so Rays unit is approx $650-700. There are smaller less exspensive models. Hmmm.

I do the same. Keep the upstairs tolerable but the guest room cool. If everyone visits I adjust the central. No need to waste extra space. 4 br 2 people normally. I blow out the upstairs every Sunday for circulation.

TEXASGIRLMAMMA :
The home I have was built by my grandfather around 1936. (So it's 90 yrs old) Each room has a combo AC/Heat window unit. Some rooms used to use those floor heaters with the grates (very painful to step on when in use!!)
The bathrooms have gas wall heaters.
The last time I had to replace a window unit was around 2021 & was pricey! ($1400 for AC/heat)
